Feature Fees?

I've recently started to write some features for a couple of newspapers in Ireland, mostly 1000 words long.
The problem I have is that when I wrote some last year for a certain tab, I was stung in terms of the fee when they came to pay me.
It was a rookie mistake which I don't want to happen again so I am looking for advice.
Can you all tell me if you can, how much is the average that the different newspapers pay for features?
If we say for instance a 1000 word feature?
A breakdown of the different papers would be great.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Depends on the paper. Check the NUJ for basic guidelines - although you may find some papers say "we don't recognise the NUJ" pay guidelines and pay you less. You can't do much about it.
