How do I find a dentist?

Ok... I'm not asking for dental advice but I cracked my tooth on Christmas eve and the inner half broke away. It was previously filled as a lad and there is no pain so, since I hate dentists (not personally, I'm just not mad about pokey things in my mouth) I of course havent done anything about it.

Now I went looking for a dentist in my area and Google seemed curiously not very good. The ironic thing is that I recently helped a company who specialise in listing dentists on the net accross europe but they dont have many in Dublin (I'll link it if anyones interested but this aint no shill :))

So, any tips as to how to find a good dentist?

I want a check up rather then a bridge done. To be honest I will travel to have the work done (I presume I'm going to need a bridge or something like it). So, I'm looking for someone to have a good aul poke around in there and give me their best advice.

    DeV.
ps: I read the charter and this seemed ok, I hope it is anyway :)

i think checking the forums for peoples experiences is the best way, or word of mouth. found my one that way and have been pretty impressed. mine is in south county dublin.
I found google ok, but was searching for specific areas in dublin and specific treatments which maybe throws up better results?

    Barry Cramer, Swan Centre, Rathmines.

Any of the Boardsies I've recommended him to seemed very happy.

Two great dentists on the Rathgar Road too.

Robert Gorby and Siobhan Davis, I've been to both of them and they're really lovely. Very patient and they explain everything well.

How exactly do you choose a dentist ? What if you get a crap one? Are there crap dentists? Does it matter ? Surely they've got some standards and practises and ethical code to abide by.

I went to the dental Hospital and they gave me a huge list of all the dentists in Leinster. There's dozens around me apparently but I don't know where , don't know if they all accept medical cards and don't know what they're like

Maybe somebody on here will give you a reccomendation. Not all dentists accept medical cards. the list the dental hospital gave you will show you the ones who do around your area and hopefully it will match up with a recommendation....good luck

I went to him and indeed he was very good and explained everything as he went (I'm a big wussy at dentists).

Got my tooth sorted out but it needs a rootcanal which is extremely expensive so I'm going to get my dentist in Malta to do it next time I'm down there (2 weeks time). I hate to mention the war but the price difference will pay for the holiday :^/

But Mr Cramer will certainly get my business while I'm in Dublin.
