Is the best way to sort this just by smashing the window or are there any other ways?
    00 Polo by the way
    Thanks

Have you any other keys for the car?

Ring your Insurance company. You may have this cover on your policy.

If you can get a mechanic/the AA/local scumbags to call out, most of them can get into a car pretty handy without breaking windows.

If you get at the inner door handle with a straightened metal coat hanger or something and pull and release it twice it will open. No deadlocks on a 00 polo.

Cheers Thoi I might give the aa a shout-wonder how much they charge though but guess I can ask when I ring.
Windows not open so can't really do the coathanger thing too easy

Local cop shop may know a scumbag able to do it for you (sister got this done out in Howth once, cops told her to wait till the evening and they might have someone in; about 8pm they dragged out a miscreant they'd picked up somewhere for something else and they got the car open!)

If you're already an AA member, it's free, no idea how much it costs otherwise. They have a kind of inflatable balloon thing which they put in between the window and the seal, then pump it up, giving them a gap to put a thin piece of metal down. About ten years ago a friend locked the keys in the car, and once they arrived it took them less than 5 minutes to get the car open.

I don't know about others but on my insurance it covers up to 450 euro for replacement keys and locks (I'm not sure exactly if it covers locking the keys in the car, but if you lose them anyway) and from this your excess (my excess is 250) is deducted and it also affects your NCB if it's not protected.

Just make sure you check all the fine print. I know I wouldn't use my insurance for it in my case.

Thats common enough, but most insurers also provide breakdown cover as an option or by default which would cover the trying to get the keys out without having any affect on your NCB or incurring the excess. One insurer (Hibernian) even runs their own breakdown rescue fleet...

Its covered under breakdown Insurance. They send out a locksmith instead of a tow truck and does not affect your policy.

I locked my keys into my own car(no 2nd set) but I have deadbolt so they said there was not much point. I put a knife between the door and the frame and bent it back whilst sticking a long metal bar into the car to push on the electric window button. The battery was on with the keys in the ignition. Took around 2 hours or so.

OP if you have a snake noose or any old noose then you can pull the door back and try to lasso the door pin and pull, unlocking the door.

I'd say that would only work on older models, the Op's 00 Polo may be eligible.

Had the same problem! Well, the key of my car were stolen. Believe it or not, many locksmiths can make a copy of the key which will open the door. Mine was older than yours - the old ones are actually easier. It was nine euro to get what's called a mechanical key - it will only open the door. All you need is the vehicle reg cert.
Not all locksmiths have the equipment to do it but there is one in Walkinstown in Dublin. It is definitely the cheapest option as I tried a local dealer and they were going to charge €100!
    Good luck!
