This is the first year this festival is taking place, in Knebworth in England, over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

First few bands set to be announced Monday are: Metallica, Linking Park, Alice in Chains, Mastodon, Lamb of God.

Other rumours are Nine Inch Nails, Machine Head, and I'm sure more will become clearer over next while.

    http://www.efestivals.co.uk/festivals/others2009/sonicshpere/lineup.shtml

That's kinda the best to go on now, till the announcement, but many other places have links with all these names confirmed too.

Really hope NIN don't play...won't be back from Oz till a month after, and really want/have to see them this year. Can't see them playing it though. Other than that, it sounds good.

Yeah, hear that Finland is a definite stop alright. Doubt Catalonia and Spain will get one, they'll be hit as one:O:D

Would love to head to this, Mastodon and Alice in Chains would be the main bands for me to see. Also hope AIC stay in Europe after September too!

Sonisphere is a new two-day rock festival for 60,000 held at Hertfordshire's Knebworth House on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2009.

The event will have one main arena with a stage at either end. The headliner for Saturday is expected to be Linkin Park, and the headliner for Sunday is expected to be Metallica, with Mastodon and Lamb Of God in support. For the rumours of who might be playing, please click here.

The festival will be run by Kilimanjaro and has been set up by Stuart Galbraith. In last year's eFestival interview with Stuart Galbraith, CEO of concert promoters Kilimanjaro. Galbraith told us, "There's one new festival, which we're looking to launch next year, which at the moment I can't tell you a lot about. It's very much in the rock vein, to enter the market place in the same area as Download."

The festival will have two outdoor stages, with 12 to 14 acts alternating between one stage and another to keep the music continuous, whilst not having two acts playing at the same time.

The festival will have camping at Knebworth with the campsite open for arrivals from 3pm on Thursday, and checkout at midday on Monday. The event will also offer festival goers a cinema, a fair, market, jugglers, and the usual festival offerings. There will also be a campsite stage with new bands and DJ sets as well. The festival does not have a strict noise curfew, and so entertainment will run until late.

The festival will also have lockers which will have car adapter style sockets in. These can be ordered alongside tickets, although there are limited numbers.

Sonisphere will also going on the road, touring Europe, visiting countries throughout Europe in the run-up to Knebworth in countries including Germany, Holland, Spain, Sweden, and Finland, and Knebworth will be the biggest, grand finale event. Metallica's involvement is part of a multi-million-pound deal that will see them play at the festival for at least three years.

Weekend tickets will be priced at £132.50, or £157.50 with camping. Lockers are priced at £10, and parking is also £10 in advance or £20 on the day. And early arrival camping entry ticket is priced at £10, and tickets for camper vans are priced at £40. Tickets will go on sale at 9am on Wednesday 11th February and eFestivals will have links for you to buy them then.

    Disabled information
Sonisphere is having an Access Pass scheme which allows comes with Early Entry, Car Parking, Camping pass and a 2 for 1 deal. Buy one and get a Carer free to the festival

Tis quite expensive for camping. although in saying that, if bands were to play the seperate gigs over 4 days, it'd amount to a lot more. At least there is camping too, as it looked like there wouldn't be.

The whole idea of the two stages without clashes reminds me of the main stage(s) at Big Day Out in Australia, where one band plays the stage, while the other is set up beside it, on a different stage, but same location. Then when band 1 walks off Stage 1, band 2 walks on stage 2...and so on, so forth. Even closer example can be of Pinkpop, although they have Stage 3 beside Main Stage, which clashes with 2nd Stage. Its a good idea, especially if you're only interested in enjoying the band, and not being right up the front for everything.

Alice In Chains, Avenged Sevenfold, and Machine Head, have been announced for the new two-day rock festival Sonisphere.

This will be Machine Head's only UK festival appearance, and the only UK shows for Avenged Sevenfold, and Alice In Chains who are taking time out from recording their first new album in 13 years, their first since the death of former frontman Layne Staley.

The latest new additions also include young Texans The Sword, who were hand-picked by Metallica's James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich for their world tour, and Irish legends Thin Lizzy. There will be more acts announced on Wednesday morning.

Tickets are on sale for the festival held at Hertfordshire's Knebworth House on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd August 2009. Weekend tickets are priced at £132.50, or £157.50 with camping. Ok, seriously, there is no space for NIN on this lineup now. And that is bloody great. No hope they can put them anywhere other than sub-headliner, and with the bands playing, well I just cant see it happening. So thats me very very happy now.

As regards the festival, I'd love to see Alice in Chains. Very annoyed at missing them. Apart from that its all meh to me(bar Thin Lizzy, but it just isn't the same). Still very expensive!

EDIT: Should also point out that NIN are playing Summersonic festival in Japan the week after, so really cant see them playing Sonisphere at all, as in the other countries, there already seems to be sub-headliners, and so wouldn't fit in with impending US dates:D. In saying that, I may have egg on my face by 9 this morning!

So after waiting all day and this morning to make sure NIN aren't added, I find out that only Bullet for my Valentine are. Also, AIC are 're-added'. Wahey, NIN in Autumn, I'll be there...me happy for a while.

It seems to be all bands who are/have toured with Metallica in the last 3/4 years. Most of the bands announced must be all Metallica day.

Nine Inch Nails, Anthrax, Airborne and Killing Joke announced today. Not looking too shabby now.

Also have the possibility of buying day tickets at end of May assuming weekend doesn't sell out. Start at 78 pounds sterling.

If anyone would like to help me out then here is my FMC code: 1k988812

Enter that code when you buy your ticket, it will be near the bottom of the form.

    Cheers!
