Emigrating to Oz and bringing dog

I have friends who are emigrating next year to Australia and they want to bring their dog. Has anyone done it and how did it go? (24 hours seems like an awful long time in the cold baggage hold of an aircraft) Plus quarantine etc. Any info welcome Thanks

Heard from enough people to believe it so im going to say it. 4 months quarantine. hope that helps not 100 percent but alot of people quoted that to me
