I knew about rockall ,but i never knew we were claiming the faroes.Whats the story anyone know?.Found this report on the Ireland page of the C.I.A. website(https://www.cia.gov). Also the cia are concerned about our illegal drugs.
Did you know they have a kids page as well.

    TRANSNATIONAL ISSUES
Disputes - international:Ireland, Iceland, and the UK dispute Denmark's claim that the Faroe Islands' continental shelf extends beyond 200 nm

Illicit drugs:transshipment point for and consumer of hashish from North Africa to the UK and Netherlands and of European-produced synthetic drugs; increasing consumption of South American cocaine; minor transshipment point for heroin and cocaine destined for Western Europe; despite recent legislation, narcotics-related money laundering - using bureaux de change, trusts, and shell companies involving the offshore financial community - remains a concern

That's probably to do with fishing rights 200 nm around the island.
Ireland aren't claiming the island itself.

I think thats refering to the ocean territories around the faroes.

If we had the island's themselves we could banish all the scumbags in the country to the faroes. then we could drop a big bomb on them.

That's not exactly the same as us claiming the Faroes, is it now?

It's all to do with oil and mineral rights. Under the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea:
all coastal states are permitted to claim a shelf up to 200 miles in breadth, subject to the exercise of the same rights by their neighbours. States whose continental shelves naturally extend beyond this distance must establish their limits to the satisfaction of the UN Commission on the basis of scientific data. A coastal state exercises over its continental shelf the sovereign right to exploit its natural resources, including oil and gas deposits as well as other minerals and biological resources, located on or under the seabed

So basically if you can prove that the continental shelf that your land mass sits on extends beyond 200 miles you can expand the area for which you claim drilling rights.

Hmm, i didn't know we claimed the Faroe Islands. But if the CIA say it then maybe we should keep it and use it for stockpiling out drugs:D

By the way if that's through about the 200nm, then why did Great Britain lay claim to the Falklands. Surely it belongs to Argentina:D

Why would we bother claiming that? 200 nanometres is nothing. :D

    nm=nautical miles

Like someone said, this is to do with our rightful claim over rockall, not the Faroe Islands.

WTF are we bothering with the Faroes for? We should be looking to annex countries with decent football teams. The World Cup is just around he corner.

Faroes beat Denmark once I think.

maybe we should be laying claim and invading other small countries, things are that bad here we could take anything descent they have, like toasters, washing machines and the odd bicycle . Just like the kid at school that was always bullied, but once in awhile would get the courage up to push around some even smaller kid, that could be us!

No, nm = nanometre. It doesn't mean anything else!

They beat Austria 1-0 in their first ever competitive international. They also drew 1-1 with Austria in the current World Cup qualifying campaign.

    This is Rockall

It's owned by the UK, although Ireland claimed it in the past on the basis that it's closer to the Irish mainland than it is to the UK mainland. According to Wikipedia it's about 83 feet wide, 100 feet long and 70 feet high, and is 300km from the next nearest land of any sort, some Scottish island.

The CIA seem to have confused the Faroes with the Rockall shelf

Let's invade the Faroes anyway, I hear there's a lovely puffin sanctuary near Torshavn.

Of course we've claimed Rockall. The Continuity Wolfe Tones even wrote a considered and diplomatically sound song about it. Very popular with the Scottish football chaps it is.

**** it, lets just invade Iceland while the bastards are on their knees, they probably still have free energy the ****ers.
    Death to the Icelandic people!!

The Falklands was part of the British Empire, totally different Kettle of Fish, What happened there is the Argentinians invaded thinking the Brits would do nothing, the brits called their Bluff, went and took back the Falklands, the lads they were up against weren't that good, they were only there because the Argentinians didn't believe the Brits would attack, The Brits did though.

    Map from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockall

The argument revolves around whether the Faroe's continental shelf and therefore EEZ extends beyond the point "A" on the attached map.

    Claims:

    UK - green

The attached map should ahve been with the previous post.

    Does that relate to Rockall?

Is it the the small triangle part were the boundaries of all the countries don't extend to, it's between Scotland and Iceland?

Always wondered why the Orkneys are British but the Faroes are Danish? They aren't that far apart.

The Orkneys are only 10 miles off Scotland, the Shetlands are practially Nordic though.

    We're taking them!

Then we're going to swap them for NI and we can have our island back.

I'd rather have the tiny rock with nothing on it in the middle of the ocean than the North tbh.
