Poor Satellite reception after plugging coaxial out of Sky box

So was trying out my new Freesat box (cheers snapssats).. and I plugged out the one of the two coaxial's out of the back of my Sky+ box.

When I plugged it into the Freesat box, reception was pretty desperate. Kinda fuzzy.. both input's are the same strength in settings so thought I must have weakened / bent the wire in the connector when I plugged it out of the Sky box.

But I've tried re-wiring it twice since and it's the same.. it's very unlikely it's the bad weather, right? As I never checked how Sky looked before I plugged the wire out the first time.

Anyone got a decent wiring guide in case I got it wrong.. but I simply cut off the head, then removed the cabling cover and plastic on the fresh length of wire. Pulled down the slim silver bits and put back on the head. It looks fine to me!

And the silicone grease may come in handy elsewhere ;)

Cheers for that.. have it wired pretty much exactly like that. But will try again in the morning. Too tired now.. the odd thing I noticed was the signal remained degraded / poor even when I plugged out the cable. No channel on screen obviously but it remained fuzzy!

When you say kinda fuzzy.... do you mean like you get on rte 1 & 2 using a rabbit ear aerial?

If it was a co-ax cable problem, and there was a problem, it would not be fuzzy... the picture would break up, be blocky, judder and so on...

any chance your scart cable is loose?

No, not fussy in the same way. Just that there's a slight fussiness when viewed up close. Simply put, it's definitely not as sharp as it usually is.

Yeah.. that's what I would have assumed alright. And same goes for weather, right? The picture would stall and judder.

Well I've re-wired it twice and it's been the same both times. I should have checked the quality before I plugged it out of the Sky box earlier this evening but never though!

No, don't think so. Have checked that since.. and it seemed pushed in and secure.

Simply put regarding the picture, it's not as sharp as normal. There's definitely something off!

Just sorted it after a third re-wiring.. I knew something was wrong especially when I plugged out both coaxials and the picture was still not sharp.

Turns out when I plugged back in the Scart from my Freesat box I pliugged it into the VCR Scart connection, and not the TV connection.

Doesn't explain why the reception was poor on the Freesat box.. unless I plugged the Scart into the VCR Scart there too.

Maybe the Freesat was set to composite and not RGB

Possibly... but it had an identical lack of sharpness to the Sky box.

Wouldn't composite be more of a drastic degradation in quality? Colours would be off, right?
