Has your friend got the music on his/her PC? If so just plug the new ipod in the manually manage the music of sync it.

If not, you need some software to take the music of the ipod and put it on the computer. There are various free products knocking about and if you search this forum you'll find plenty of advice. Sharepod is free i think. I use Touchcopy €25 for my ipod touch - its work the few quid.
