can i improve edge to 3g

i currently have the o2 broadand and get a very good edge reception which on a couple of times has flashed to 3g, looking at the o2 coverage map which isn't great i'm roughly on the brder of the 3g/hsdpa coverage area i think, i have seen boosters are available to improve your signal if its poor, but does anyone know if…
