Are you willing to stray from the Main Dealer network

Please please, at least do the oil change yourself, if you've never done it before it will take you about 45 minutes. An oil, filter and microfilter change from BMW will cost you over €300, you could save at least €200 for 45 minutes work, most of which is getting the car up and down again.

Then take it in to the garage.

Got a Mini and a 04 318 serviced at Ahern's BMW in Castleisland a while back, found them very reasonable (by main dealer standards). Mini service plus re-gas air con was about 300 euros at the time. BMW a little over 200.

That's extremely good, what did they do to the cars?

Des Golden should be the best place to call to,
same estate as the driving test centre, off Sarsfield Road near wilton,

Very nice man, and very good service by all accounts as well.

To be fair I imported it from UK last year so saved a good bit.

I have no idea how to change the oil in car:(

I would prefer to stay with a main dealer just to keep the electronics in check. Mate of mine went off the beaten track before with a servive and messed up all the electronics etc as it wasnt hooked up to any computer.

Related question:- Can only BMW garages reset the service indicator? In the manual for my old Merc there was a section on how to do it manually, but I didn't see this in the BMW manual.

Nope, you can do it yourself, but it can vary from car to car. In mine you can do it by touching 2 pins under the bonnet with a wire, models even a year newer can do the same by holding certain combinations of buttons on the dash. (by the speedo).

Don't remember, but I'll check the Mini invoice and come back on it. Even though I'm in the trade I thought it was worth the money at the time. I booked in the BMW for a mate so can't check that invoice but he was dead happy.

Personally I would value to service history on such a new car. Also if you go to a non main dealer garage, make sure thay can update the onboard computer and the keys to show the service interval.

Yeah thats a fair point. BMW servcing looks hell of a lot better than some Minty type down a back alley..:D

Over here in Milton Keynes there is an outfit called PCS that can service BMWs, Mercs etc, without voiding warranty. Not much use to you, obviously, but surely there must be something similar back home.

To give you an idea of the savings, my car has condition based servicing and was asking for an oil change. Main dealer price, £280. PCS price, £150. So that was a no brainer.

You also mentioned tyres, I had to get the rear tyres changed just before Christmas and main dealer was actually the cheapest place I could find for them, plus they do a pick up and drop off service, which is nice.
