Is it possible to get s-video from the VCR scart socket on the back of the newer Thomson UPC STB?
I currently have mine connected to the s-video socket on my media centre but the picture is Black and White and I really don't want to use composite!
(BTW. the tv Scart is connected to my TV using RGB)

    Cheers.

Composite (or maybe RGB on TV out only)
You can buy external RGB to S-Video

Quality numbers from lower to higher:
    1 RF Modulator
    3 Broadcast RF reception
    4 Composite
    9 S-Video
10 RGB SCART, RCA Composite, non-HD on HDMI.

    Thanks watty.
So VCR SCART socket supports RGB, that's good to know. I wasn't sure as there is no option in the settings to set it to RGB.

I'm aware of the relative quality order of TV connectors which is why I am trying to get S-Video to work; it's the best the TV-card in my media centre PC takes

The Thomson DVR doesn't output s-video, I guess the normal STB is the same so - kinda a downgrade from the old Sagem boxes which did output s-video on the second SCART output IIRC (though everything else was crap with those boxes).

VCRs with 2 SCART sockets will generally support RGB loopthrough when you have your STB plugged into the 2nd socket and your TV in the 1st - with some you have to specify the 2nd SCART socket is connected to a "decoder", "cable/sat" or something along those lines (a switch on the back or something in the on-screen menu). However a VHS VCR will not be able to record RGB video, only composite (and S-video if S-VHS), and if you watch the STB using the VCR (i.e. on the VCR's AV channel) it will only be composite. RGB loopthrough usually works when the VCR is in standby.
