    Hi all,

Apologies for the idiotic request. I'm just after ordering one of these...

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/60GB-2.5%22-EXTERNAL-SATA-HARD-DRIVE-60-GB-USB-2.0-G-_W0QQitemZ120367034017QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090122?IMSfp=TL090122141010r8486

but it didn't arrive just ready to plug in. The following instructions were with it......

1.Unscrew the back panel and pull out the tray

    2.Plug all connectors to HDD

3.Screw HDD to the tray tightly

4.Insert the tray to the enclosure, and screw the back panel

5.Screwthe plastic boards on both sides of enclosure

Due to my level of IT stupidity I can't get my head around these however. What do they mean by the tray, and what are the connectors, and how do I plug them to the harddrive? Photo of HD with back removed should be attached.

    thanks!

This is a laptop EXTERNAL USB hard drive, according to the description.

It just plugs into a USB port on the laptop, it does not need a separate power source according to the eBay site.

You should have got a USB cable with it. Put the case back on and connect it up.

    Cheers.

thanks LSLFAN, but power isn't the problem. When connected with USB cable provided the HD isn't being read, and i think i need to follow those instructions that I listed to get it started the first time it's used. any other suggestions?

They mean the tray that its already encased in. if its from ebay its probably fake. run a CHKDSK on it, or look in Device manager and see if its recognized at all

    Gandar,

Very strange...according to the ebay seller its a simple plug and play HD, ready to use. Those instructions would appear to be for connecting internally to a PC, ie connecting power and sata cables. But I cant see any connection points apart from the USB.

The enclosure seems to be just a case for the HD, looks like loads of them around (Google it).

Hopefully its genuine.......maybe the USB cable or port is faulty. Have you tried another cable and/or port?

Can you see it in "My Computer" or right click "My Computer/Manhage/Disk Management"?

Sorry I cant be of much more help.
