    Hi all,

I'm in my mates office trying to get the network printer to work, It's a brother HL-2700CN, I downloaded the manual.. doesnt have anything about setting it up on a network.

I've the printer plugged into the hub, as well as 4 PC. the PC are all working,

I've tried to install the Printer, But I'm not sure what IP address to use, I've checked the IP address on the PC and tried that, But it doesnt work,

How can i get it to work ?

Is there a configuration setting on the Brother?

It should be on the Control Panel menu. Set it up with an IP that's not in use. Assign it the same gateway address as the PCs on the network, see if you can ping it.

Press the Set button on the front of the printer 3 times and it will print a configure page with all the current settings. This will include the ip address assigned to it by your router.
Then go to one of the pc's and type the ip address from the config page into Internet Explorer (http://ipaddress).

Once you have found the IP address ( are you running Xp on the PCs? )

Goto control panel -> printer and faxes

File -> add printer and press next.

Choose local printer attached to this computer (untick the tick box)

Choose create a new port (select standard tcp/ip port) Next, Next

Type in the IP address of the printer in the first text box and press Next

Select generic network card and press next...then Finish

See if your printer is in the list, if not you will need the CD and press have disk to browse for an inf file...press next after selelcting the inf file

Give the printer a name and press next. do not share printer, next

Test page, YES and press next and then finish.

You should see a file transfer dialog box. Might take a few moments to kick in.

(Hope I haven't left any steps out lol :p)

If you are having difficulty in finding the IP address, you can use Advanced IP address scanner. Google for it. The program pings every IP address in use so you can determine easily which one the printer is.
