I'm getting as many opinions as I can on the colour I want to get, mine has gone quite flat in places, so I'm getting it sprayed, so here goes:

I'm going to get my car:

    in this colour:

Saw a GT coupe in the US that was recently done with metallic grey and black shelby stripes. Looked very sharp. Look on US ebay for ideas.

I'd go a bit darker myself - more navy!

...........there is a Shelby Clone knocking around in that colour with the white stripes. it does look well.

Be carefull though that the shade you pick doesn't look too modern. I'd stick with original colours, or originally available colours if it were mine !

    This looks close,

The most traditional colours fore 'Stangs would be blue, red, or white. Up and over shelby stripes are optional but look a bit silly on a coupe IMO. The above mentioned colurs are a bit over done, but that's coz they work. Black or gray is also an option;. Here's some examples:

Thanks, I think that it would most likely look like the one above, I'm a bit unsure of stripes myself, I'm not going to get them painted, but I might mock them up (in paper)to see how they look. My painter shall be coming back to me to tell me if the colour I asked (the sonic blue) will look well and a price, I'll see what se says about the paint.

I would agree with MercMad, be careful not to choose a colour that is too modern, it will take away from the car.

The colour that was used as per factory on the Old Mustangs, was "Acapulco Blue". I sold a very nice example to a customer in the Cork area a few years ago. It's still listed in the 'Sold' section of the website. In the flesh, the blue was actually a lot darker and pronounced, somehow the pics came out lighter... it was late afternoon on a dulll day...

Decided to go for it: Spent a week dismantling the car with a friend and it went off to the painter on monday. No nasty surprises when we took it apart, seems to be quite solid under there. Dropped into it yesterday and its all prepped for the paint to start today, I shall keep you posted

Are you going back to bare metal or flatting and colour coating ??

What colour will it be anyway ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,119 ✭✭✭mustang68

Down to the metal was too expensive for me, the painter went down to metal around places like the windows, edges and where there had been loose paint. He's going to seal it and then primer, colour and lacquer.

i went for the Ford Sonic Blue, its a US colour and it seems to look good on this car

Do you mind me asking roughly how much its costing for the respray?

Thank you! the rear ones are not indicators, in the early 68 they were just reflectors. Just took them off for the painting.
