VAT on Gifts outside EU?

    Hi folks,

If an Irish resident purchases a product on an Irish website for delivery ouside the EU, is Irish VAT payable by Irish customer? The Irish based payer never takes physical delivery of the product - it is shipped directly by the website outside the EU to a third party.

    Thanks,

Dunno, got stung myself for VAT however I was the final receipient.
I imagine that revenue would class you as liable for VAT as the point of purchase was here.
Best to check with revenue online for clarification.:)

You probably need more expert tax advice - but vat is payable on a purchase by the purchaser, not the receiver - e.g. if you're buying a present for your aunt in africa, you pay the vat, it doesn't matter where you're sending the gift. (i think...).
