Hi, does anyone know when it will be possible to book United Airlines flights through AerLingus.com. You can currently book Aer Lingus flights on United.com.
Also, can you earn Gold Circle points on the flights on United Planes if it is a codeshare?

An Aer Lingus United codeshare was due to start November 1, 2008 provided it got goverment approval. This would supersede the previous code share Aer Lingus had with American.

But it appeards that Aer Lingus is codesharing with both United and Oneworld Alliance. This is from the arrivals in LHR T1 today.

You should be able to earn points on your Gold Circle with United.

    These links may help. http://airlineroute.blogspot.com/2008/09/united-to-start-aerlingus-codeshare.html

I followed the links but they only mention the code sharing agreement, not when they can be booked through Aer Lingus and/or the Gold Circle details.

Come to think of it could a Oneworld Alliance booking have been made on the Aer Lingus website? I think you had to go to the Oneworld Alliance website to do this. I think the reason Aer Lingus left the alliance was due to the cost of a new computer system to allow Oneworld bookings.

Aer Lingus do share Terminal 1 at LHR with United. I will try and find out if anyone knows anything. Again, I think it is a case of will Aer Lingus upgrade to a system allowing access to United bookings and visa versa.

so Aer Lingus who code share with BA (Part of Oneworld) are also codesharing with United (Part of Star Alliance) on LHR - DUB routes? surely BMI (Also part of Star Alliance) and BA must be a bit miffed by this?

It is going on and no one really cares. Aer Lingus are not competing for the business traveler on the shorthaul.

No, they're codesharing with United on USA routes, just like jetBlue.

I think the ability to book United flights on AerLingus.com will be available in April?

    Cheers mate. Some questions?
    1. Why so long? You could do the converse on United since last November.
    2. What United metal routes will IE code-share on?
    3. Will they codeshare on USAirways metal if it currently has a United code share?
    3. Will you only be able to earn GC miles if your United metal connects with an Aer Lingus operated flight - for example, thinking of flying PHX to BOS (and not onwards to DUB) in May.

    So many questions.......

They left because a) alliances weren't suited to their new business model and b) the cost of upgrading their systems to work with the likes of JAL wasn't worth it. Mostly a) however.

BA won't care. Codeshares aren't exclusive tie-ins. They're just matters of convenience. bmi isn't in any state to give a damn to be honest, and I suspect United don't really care if it annoys them. EI's greater frequency suits them all the more.

Incorrect. They will be codesharing on some internal United routes in the US but vice versa, United is code sharing on some short haul flights out of Dublin as well as the transatlantic services.

From the only information both airlines have given you'll be able to book a flight from Dublin to any of United's destinations via their Washington hub, likewise you'll be able to book a flight from Washington to onward Aer Lingus destinations via their Dublin hub. I'm not sure if thats what you meant but that was my point in my post, that it wasn't just a codeshare on the DUB-LHR route.

Is this meant to be kicking off today? I see nothing about it on aerlingus.com.

Just out of curiosity, do posters feel this thread should be in A&A, or should it be in Commuting and Transport?

Sent a mail off to Gold Circle asking them when it would be possible to book UA flights on aerlingus.com. Got a reply back saying I could use Jet Blue. Very helpful!

Just noticed on the Dublin Airport timetable that they have loaded the EI flight code on some internal United flights. No sign of anything on aerlingus.com though.

Don't see them. Is it only on specific United Routes? Looking at Phoenix for May 16.

Seams to be some more than others (JetBlue still seems to be listed for Phoenix, where Seattle now is United with an EI6xxx flight number).

Maybe there is more to come.

Still nothing there nor are they responding to my e-mails. Really frustrating, I am looking to give them business but they are not interested.
