There is a rubbing noise thats coming from the back of my car when i brake. Also. The brakes feel less affective. The noise is like rubbing stones together. Before i garage/buy parts could someone verify this? Hand brake was always loose but no i don't feel any resistance until last ~3 clicks

A grateing noise from the brakes prob means that the linings have worn from the pads or shoes and the metal backing is rubbing on the disc or drum. Needs to be repaired as quickly as possible for 2 reasons, 1 safety (its brakes like), 2 will cause more damage ie the discs or drums may need to be replaced aswell depending on how badly they're damaged.

This is exactly why I wanted absolute confirmation first. Before my post I took the car off the road as that was what I thought it was. Its drums but unfortunatly the other day I drove some 50-60miles on em like that (20 city)

    cheers for the replies :)

When your getting the shoe's done you as well change the cylinders. These go every now and again. What is the car?
