Is 53k miles a lot for a 07 Diesel Mondeo. The price is reasonable but I'd just be worried about the high mileage

Is it late 07 or early 07 registered? Its a two year old car, with 85000kms on it. Thats 42500kms a year. Sounds like a rep had it with that mileage. I wouldnt be worried about it, just check the service history out carefully - make sure it has been serviced regularly. @ 80000kms it should have had 4 services, the service interval is 20,000kms.

Thats just over 26k miles per year, not major for a diesel by any means. But it would suggest that the car was a company car which may not be a bad thing as they are usually maintained pretty well as servicing & maintenance are usually included in any lease/purchase agreements. Just make sure to verify the service history with invoices and have a mechanic examin it.

On Irish roads? That's a lot of punishment for the car in a short time, no problem for the engine if spinning away on the motorway but what about the rest of the car? Just make sure it was not a taxi!

Motorway driving....up and down the M50, its got pot holes all over it.. far worse than back roads in places..

You could argue the same point on low mileage city runabouts, excessive wear on the clutch, gearbox, brakes, etc from all that stop/start driving around town.

Does it really matter what year the car is, 53k miles is 53k miles. The only differences I can see with a 2007 53k miler over a 2002 53k miler are:

    - less rain would have fallen on it
    - likely to have less car paring dents (cos it was driving most of the time:D)
    - Better chance the 53k miles is genuine, there is more likelihood that the 2002 model could have been clocked back to 53k miles (might not have worded this one right).

    Like where?
I don't recall any potholes on the M50

I have a Jan 07 diesel, not any kind of Ford though, with 74k on it.

It's not a taxi, I am not a rep and every km is genuine as is it's service record.
I get about 810 - 830kms to each fill, which currently come in at just under 50 euros each, after dropping from a height of 72 euros, the highest price I ever paid for a fill.

I have brought it abroad during both of the previous summers which probably put about 12-15k on it in total.

The diesel engine was bought for economy and efficiency as well as it's ability to do the miles, or the kms, so to me 80kish is not so high.

chances are its fine, at that mileage it was definitley a company car or taxi or possibly rented car , id only be concerned about the 2nd one, rented and company cars are normally well maintained, and on a diesel that isnt a bad mileage, my oul fella hands in a year old car every year with something around that mileage (self employed, driving 5/6 days a week for a few hours a day) ,

just check for service history and the condition of the bumpers (that mileage might have a few marks on them) ,

OP, I have an 06 Mondeo 2.0TDCi, with 85k kms. Don't worry about the milage, it is a diesel. My car is not a reps car or a taxi. I get around 6l per 100km (46mpg). Just make sure of the usual checks. Be prepared about the deprecation, I lost around 13K in 18 months for trading. Also try get the Zetec model at least, the LX is pure mule.

    Good luck with it.

The old fella got the 2.2 TDCi Ghia X model & it seems to be a nice car. get one of those above a Zetec.

Its a Zetec alright. January 07 and was brought in from the UK. I suppose my main problem will be selling it on in about 5 years time as the mileage will be well over 100k. That combined with it being the older model will mean I'll prob get nothing for it then?

If you are concerned about depreciation then don't buy a Mondeo as they are one of the worst, for no apparent reason.

Regarding it being a UK import, verify the UK service history by ringing the garages or running a UK HPI against the old UK reg. If the car doesn't come with a UK service history then walk away.

Is it the 115bhp or 130bhp version?

Is right. As I pointed out in my previous post, I was offered around 13k less than I paid for my car in August 2007. The fact that it is the older model means the hit has already been taken by the previous owner. As long as you get it at the right price, look after it and drive it til it stops, don't worry about losing the money.

Thinks its the 115. I suppose if I keep it for 5 years I shouldn't expect too much back on it. The older model works out at least 5k cheaper than the newer 08 model
