Cheers Wicklow Rider. Do we need a CI license as well as the entry fee? I am waiting on one, should probably have it by then but not 100% sure.

If you don't have one, you can just get a one-day anyway. I think (not sure) that you can take that off your CI fee when you get the full license.

I've done a Bray Wheelers randonee before and didn't need a license.

What's the purpose of such a licence? Insurance?

    Yep it's usually insurance reasons.

Thought I was just check again and see who is doing this, my mate has decided he isnt so I don't want to be on my lonesome.

    Rottenhat, anyone else?

I'll be there although I have had a bicycle related disaster. Front derailler and shifter gone wonky and rear derailler also not working properly.

I'll either be on some sort of bastardized road bike with one front chainring and a loose chain or possibly a borrowed hybrid. Who has a spare road bike for poor aul 5' 8" Gavin?

I'm trying a race instead, otherwise would have been on for it. Gavin- how tall are you again? You can borrow one of mine if it would fit, they are all 58cm.

Thanks Blorg, but I reckon 58 would be too much of stretch for me, particularly on a long cycle. I think my current is 56 and is slightly too large. Any 54-56 out there ?

If I get stuck I can just borrow my brothers hybrid

Yes, you're welcome to borrow my 54cm Kinesis.

Well thanks to the very generous Lumen, I have secured a bicycle !

So, anyone else heading along to this ?

I was going to do the same, but WicklowRider told me that there is still a lot of muck on the roads along the route when they were posting the signs yesterday

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 4,034 Mod ✭✭✭✭Planet X

Cheers XZ. It'll be hack n mudguards then.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Great, just washed my bike after it got trashed at Howth on thursday and now it seems I'll be washing it again tomorrow.

I should really hire someone to do it for me, or teach my dog to do it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭xz

don't worry, if it's any consolation, I spent most of today cleaning my bike, and finishing off my new build, bar tape, fine tuning etc. I am still debating whether to chance the new bike, or leave it until I am sure the weather is going to be better.
Still a lot of muck and stones left over from the snow along the route, and the mudguards I bought from you worked a treat over the winter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

My chain had a good deal of rust in the space of 5 hours on thursday. I stupidly forgot to wipe it after I got back to college and had this awful squeaking all the way home.

I wouldn't put your nice new P-X through something like that, save it for the sunshine :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,178 ✭✭✭xz

and besides, I haven't road tested the P-X yet, and a Randonee is not the place to do it, don't want to be stopping every few miles to tweak things

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,505 ✭✭✭✭DirkVoodoo

Was a good spin today. Gavin, Emty, Planet X and xz were all there. 130km for me door-to-door.

After having mechanical trouble most of the way round with a skipping chain, and a lot of tweaking, to no avail, imagine my surprise when I got home and discovered that my cassette was loose, had forgotten to tighten it more than hand tight after taking it off for a clean yesterday. Won't make that mistake again, my legs really hurt now due to restricted gearing, but it was an enjoyable day;) Clubhouse to clubhouse route was 101km

Ah yes, a memorable spin! 4 punctures. I must try and take the thorn out the next time after the first puncture, what do you think? I reckon it was the problem.

    Anyway, 85 miles.
Thanks for my puncture support crew and a tube from Dirk, appreciated.

Didnt stop you tucking into the sambos with those mucky hands;)
Checking for the thorns is always a good idea, but easily forgotten in your rush to change tubes and back onto the group

Yes, an enjoyable spin ! Sorry I didn't say hello xz, didn't realise that was you. Blame Dirk for his shocking manners.

120 km in total, the 101km clubhouse to clubhouse was done in 3:40 of cycling time, so an average of 27km/h which is pretty good for me! It's safe to say the extra 7km/h was due to Lumen's top quality bicycle which I really don't want to return now. Thanks again Lumen, was great to cycle that distance on a good bike!

Good job from BrayWheelers, plenty of decent food and a good crowd, more than worth 10 euro. I shall stick my sweaty certificate on the wall

I brought one of my lads to play soccer in the park beside the club house this morning. A very impressive collection of cycles and cyclists to be seen. Funny as I got back down Schools Road onto Boghall Road I spotted a Boardsie jersey making his way in. Rider was wearing clear lenses and looked like a green peak under his helmet. Jersey looks well. Hope all enjoyed it. I was in Ashford later doing taxi service for the other lad's match and passed a few riders on their return but alas no Boardsies.

That would have been emty, we lost him after about 50/60km.

I also forgot to mention Rottenhat was there with his crew, apologies for my bad manners in group riding.

Gav, I tried to introduce you to xz but you were stuffing so many sandwiches into your mouth I thought I would let you be :)

Did this with a mate. But we started 20 mins late with a fella from swords cycling club. Joined a group comprised of Dublin Wheelers and Swords Cycling club at Rathdrum for the rest of it. Pace wasn't too hectic.

Nicest cup of tea I've had in a while.

Woo hoo! I has a crew!

Nice meeting you all, even if it was brief. I'll rock up for a Saturday spin at some point in the not too distant future...just can't muster the enthusiasm to go out Saturday and Sunday, unlike hard man Emty.

You were telling me about two recent punctures, and now four in one spin. You should check if Chainreaction do solid tyres. :)

Still keeping the lovely titanium Enigma under wraps?
