Try 123.ie. I'd nearly put money on them being several hundred cheaper. What car do you have btw?

It's very hard for anyone to say what you should be paying based on the information you've provided.

Those "**** stains" may have a very good reason for that quote.

It's depends on your car, locations, experience, NCB, penalty points, sex, etc.

Your best bet is to ring them all and see which is best.

I've heard people mention www.insure.ie and www.123.ie but I've not used them myself.

All insurance is going up, very few people will be getting lower quotes and most will be getting higher quotes. The insurance companies have taken a beating over the last year and they are now out to get our their money back.

As others have said ring all the places in the goldenpages and then pick which suits you best for the cheapest price you can get. Don't just go with the cheapest.

Since you can't even spell the model of your car I reckon 2000 euros is fair:D

I'm 25, 5 years no claims and got my qoute from my broker for €574 from tavellers insurance. Last year I paid them over €700 with Hibernian. This year the quote they got from Hibernian was over €800.

I was told about a website 25plus.ie, I checked it out and was quoted €373.

All of the quotes above are fully Comp. I could not believe the difference. I think it is run by an english company.

That's €200 better off in my pocket!! 'tis a recession!! :D

Try Axa. They gave me a fantastic price for fully comp well over 100 better than 123.ie and 300 better than quinn(only 3rd party) and about 1000 better than Hibernian the fecking thiefs.

    I have found differently,

my youngest son has just turned 17 & we were looking to get him cover as a named driver on a 2.2 ltr diesel primera.

last month we were quoted 1750 - 2100 € , we decided we would wait till he finished his leaving cert,

the broker rang me yesterday, they are offering cover for just over €900, which we will accept when the policy expires in about 10 days time.

    PS

BTW I have found online quotes to be a complete waste of time as is dealing with the insurance companies direct. brokers are hungry for business & will usually offer a far better deal.

I remember we tried Axa (we were both on provisionals) and we were quoted €1600 approx fully comp for the two of us.

We then rang insure.ie, and they got us (with AXA  ) €800 for the same deal! We are no both on full licenses, and still with Axa (via insure.ie) and are paying something like €500 fully comp.

Definitely give insure.ie a go. They worked for us, but again when it comes to insurance everyone is different.

My car insurance was up for renewal recently with Hibernian. Out of curiousity I checked insure.ie and they got me the equivalent policy for €120 less. I rang Hibernian to tell them that I would be moving as I got a cheaper quote and the person I spoke to on the phone couldn't have been less interested in keeping my business.

So, despite what snowman707 says, I would definitely recommend checking out online quotes. You don't have to accept any of them and, especially with insure.ie where it gives you a list of eight quotes to choose from, you'll get a good idea of what the market is charging for your circumstances.

To OP - that seems high. Mine is only about €500 for a 1.6L Focus although we're going through Glennon and a union group deal - even still i find it hard to imagine that I'm getting mine at 50% cheaper for a car with a larger engine, as you and I have similar profiles otherwise.

From reading his first post he was on a provisional last year so can only have 1 year no claims bonus for a start. That's going to make the premium more expensive. Then he may have penalty points, named drivers or live in a dodgy area. All of those can affect a premium.

Or where the car is kept, what occupation he has, or if the car has an alarm, immobliser ect. Too many variables.

Get off yer arse and ring everyone in the golden pages op. Its the only way.....

My own policy is due up for renewal near the end of the month.

    The renewal letter quoted €630
I rang the insurance company and they said €560

A bit of ringing around later:
    Aaran Insurances: 590
    FBD Insurance: 740

Cheapest was from 25plus.ie at €526. We may have a winner unless there are any other suggestions.

Just looked at what is covered by nononsense.ie.

    Injury to other people
    Damage to others' property
Damage to your car caused by fire
Loss or damage to your car due to theft
Loss or damage to your car resulting from an accident
Towing costs of up to €175
Replacement locks and alarm up to €500
Fire brigade charges up to €1,000

Is personal injury not covered? i thought this would be no. 1 for anyone??

Edit: It can be added for €25 but does seem to be very limited. Maybe that is the very normal though.

Injury to other people is personal injury. If you mean personal injury to the driver then no, that's not part of most policies. (well, you might get €5k for loss of a leg above the knee..)

after reading this thread i decided to check what sort of quotes i could get for the craic

When my renewal comes up i'll be 24(25 three months after my renewal)

i also checked what sort of quotes i'd get if i was 25 with all other details the same and it was less than half what i'll have to pay as a 24 year old.

what sort of options do i have? get short term coverage till i turn 25? would that end up costing more?

I'm having a dreadful time trying to get insurance.

I've had a little shop around but this thursday I plan to ring everyone!!!!

IME Quinn are awful for some people, maybe its high powered cars. I was quoted similar to you, 26, 2 years NCB, license 3 years, 2L BMW. Hibernian, who i have been with for 2 years now quoted me €1,016 for renewal. Insure.ie or 123.ie quoted the same price for me (1 of about 6), so I can only guess that was Hibernian too. Cheapest out of the 6 too btw.

Try adding your GF too. I should have mentioned that. She brings down mine by something like €150. You could add your mother, father or sister either for cheaper insurance.

Just remember all quotes are valid for 30 days afaik so keep an eye on what date the 3% levy kicks in in order to keep your quote slightly cheaper ;)
