Im having trouble managing my different work tasks recently, which is causing me to stay late to try and catch up. I think my organization and time management cud be improved. I know this isnt an unusual issue but any ideas on how to be better at these things wud be appreciated.

I used to be in the same boat. Someone gave me a few tips where you use Microsoft Outlook to book appointments on your calendar and then drag these appointments on to your task list. I've always found this to be a very simple way of managing tasks within the day and it forces me to concentrate the mind on the priority areas.

I suppose this works for me, others use diaries, simple to do lists. It's really what suits you best.

Hope this helps in some way.

I use an old fashioned to-do list. Write down all the tasks that need to be completed that day then decide which to do first, second etc. If you're in the kind of job where you get regular emails asking you to check/do things, just make sure you finish the thing you're working on before you go back to your emails.

I also find that putting reminders in my calendar helps me to remember things that need to be done on a regular bases, eg weekly reports etc.

    Simple but effective :)

stay away from boards usually boosts my productivity 10 fold.

Avoid reading personal mails and browsing.

come in a few minutes early and priortise your work.

Take the 5-6 most important tasks start with the most important and don't do anything else till it's finished.

Try and close off any apps that might distract you if you work at a pc.

    outlook/msn/gtalk etc

maybe answer two emails per every task finished

There's tons of applications out there test a few and see what suits your working habbits best.

avoid procrastination if needs to be done get it done.
