The aces studio is gone allright but MS havent ditched the brand totally, the core technology behind FSX is being used in lots of commercial and military sims now and being pushed under the ESP brand by Microsoft.

Somewhere down the line when things get better im sure they'll start making flight sims again. The next one was due to be a lot more immersive and more "gamey" to appeal to more casual gamers. Would still be great fun for a more professional simmer.

Taken from this good article on the register:

"Version 11 was coming in a year and a half, which would have catered increasingly to a gaming crowd, not just the current enthusiasts and professionals.

Planned features included voice recognition with air traffic control, first-person mode, a full fledged career mode with a job board and a currency system, a lighter-then-air aircraft class, and skydiving. "We were starting to focus more on the game aspect of it than just the simulation," the ACES insider told us.

So what do ye think is going to happen next? I wonder how the management of Just Flight, PMDG, Flight1 etc are feeling right now

id be very happy if they made 11 to be more gamey than simmy. as it is it sounds like the project is tits up, but being microsoft and the brand being as venerable as it is, its something theyre likely to resurrect when things turn around.

Came accross http://www.supportflightsim.com/ on the VATeir forums, may be a nice thing to add yer names to folks. Not that I harbour any illusions of it making a blind bit of difference, but nice to be seen doing something rather than just sitting here complaining :)

We'll just have to keep going with FSX for another few years, they'll bring out a new one eventually fear not.

Now X-Plane can take over the world!

(Meh to FSX. Dreadful flight model)

Why is it dreadfull? Depends on the aircraft model and realism settings. The Justflight Piper Archer flies pretty much exactly the same as the one down at my aero club, same with tomahawks and C172s that i've flown in the sim and in real life.
