    No canteen and no rye

    Sad times...

Know where to get a decent fry now?

Got a fry in the SU on monday morning. Wasn't that bad, but didn't think it was the best I'd ever had.

My fondest college memory to date is being pretty hungover after exams ended last may. A gorgeous sunny morning at around 10am, and I'm eatign a lovely fry-up outside the Rye.

    I miss it terribly.

Was a student in Maynooth for 5 years and can't believe the rye is gone. Best rashers and toast in Ireland!

Had breakfast in SU this morning...it's just not the same as the weekly canteen grease-fest.

Greene is quite nice and cheap enough, was there for dinner during exams.

Am I missing something, since when did the SU do food???

    Apologies, the BAR. :p

I haven't tried Greene's yet, it was booked out the one night I went down, but I've heard good things and the rye was a hole of a place!
They served slabs of lard covered in grease with instant pisswater coffee.
The best cure for a hang over is to keep drinking, it works for Lemme!

Ah the rye was the best, who cares about the grease, everything was nice! Jen and winnie there used to look after ye every time ye went in!

As regards next best fry up, supervalue shopping centre, there is a cafe in there thats a bit like the rye, very nice.

Twist from what i remember a while ago, havnt been there in a while, was over priced for food that dosnt fill you up! was never happy with the place!

It's been doing lunches at that since I started college, but now it has to cover breakfasts too.

    Not really...no linedbreadwithhairdryerheat/toast.

I remember during one of the first weeks of first year I decided to get some lasagna and chips in the SU bar for lunch. There was a roasted fly on top of said lasagna... I have never eaten there since.

I think the twist is good actually, it's expensive but tastes good. You can also get a pretty cheap lunch in the chinese on mainstreet. Like ten euro I think? But it's fairly nice.

I never really went to the rye except for one time, I think I had soup :P I quite enjoyed the breakfasts in the canteen though.. Never went for the toast after I first made that mistake :P

I'm assuming it was the restaurant to your right as you're heading to the south campus entrance. Not sure myself, we used to call it the greasy spoon.

Fond memories of that place..... Went there on the first day with people i just met.....was there again some weeks later after the first major class piss up with the same people....

    IT WAS SO CHEAP! :(

Now I just go to the Coffee Mill.

In terms of food our options aren't great, whats the pub grub like in the area bar The Roost?

This all sounds awfully expensive. Just get a do it yourself goujon roll in dunnes.

    Buttered Roll - 60c
    3 Chicken Goujons - €2.01

The Roost Carvery costs around 10e but is delicious. You'd be broke very quickly if you ate there constantly though.

Brady's carvery is also lovely but costs around the same.

Nothing can replace the Rye / Greasy Spoon.

You inspired todays lunch, lovely and cheap :)

I also went to Tescos for the first time, village in itself that place.

    Ahhh, plastic chicken.

    Ah, Dunnes for lunch.

    At least it's non-toxic.

They should really let out a classroom for those of us too poor to buy food, let us bring our own. Create a job or two with supervisors. Work that into your changes, mofo.

Sure you can all just use my office if I win :D

A room or two around campus for eating your own food is a good idea though.
