Laptop cable and water

The silver bit (the actual bit that connects to the laptop) on the cable that connects my battery charger to my laptop fell into a sink of water.

It has pretty much dried out inside the cavity apart from one tiny drop of water. If I leave it to dry completely overnight do you think it will be ok to use?

Sorry for the completely vague description!

Proceed with caution. Once dried out it should be fine but if this thing isn't completely dried out when you decide to use it on your laptop then it could cause some serious damage to the laptop. I'd leave it for a few days to be on the safe side.

    Ah crap. :(

Thanks though! Any idea where I could get a replacement cable as I seem to have problems with mine every week? (Problems with me being an idiot!)

I mean, would it be something I could get in any normal computer shop or would I have to order online? It's for a Dell Inspiron 1501.

Put it in the hotpress for 2 nights and it will be fine

You could order one off dell. Most computer shops should have a universal one with the correct connections for a dell laptop. Bring the laptop in with you and ask them can you try it out first to see if it works. If it's in one of those stupid impossible to open without using a chainsaw type packagings then they probably won't, if it's easy enough to package together again they more than likely will let you try it.

Thanks a million. The cable is now in the hot press! :D

My battery is nearly gone and I'd rather not go another weekend without a laptop so I'll see if I can get the universal one tomorrow.

    Thanks again.

Use your hair dryer to dry it. My chils chews my chargers(Obv I try to stop him) and I use a hair dryer for an hour. Not to close, not top far

If the hair dryer go's its cheaper than a new charger esp considering I dont buy it :D

I'll put my hands up here and admit that I'm probably the only girl without a hair dryer! Thanks though!

I was once told by someone in the know that using universal adapters on Dells isn't really a good idea. I also damaged an Inspiron 640m once by using one. So be careful. A Dell PA-10 or PA-12 adapter would work with that laptop.

the charger should be fine once dried out just plug it in first to make sure its fine then plug it into the laptop.

Your dell uses a pa-12 charger afaik i would just buy an original off ebay (becareful there are alot of fakes)

Do you have an oven that can reliably be set to a low temperature? Putting it in an oven at 60 deg for a couple hours would be faster.
