"working" and on the dole

I have just been offered a job. It will be regular hours(40 P.W.) but I will not be getting paid anything. I am using the job as a chance to build up experience. I am on the dole so I am just wondering if I should bring this to the Social Welfare's attention?

I do intend to keep looking for work while I am in this job so technically speaking I will still be actively seeking work.

I'm totally sure about the official word on this so don't take my post as the gospel but as far as I know you can do "volunteer/free work" whilst collecting dole payments - just run it by your local welfare office to be sure.

If you take up this work the Social Welfare can deem you not available for full-time employment or not available to seek full-time work. There something about volunteering but i don't know the details.

I'm nearly positive that the official line is that you can't be doing "paid" work while on the dole. Any unpaid work is basically volunteerism.

I said that to the best of my knowledge if you are not getting paid then any "work" you do can be classed as volunteered work. It's only when you're being paid that there's issues.

Why would the Welfare office deem him/her as anything in this case? They can't deem you unavailable for employment if you are available for "free work/volunteerism", I doubt that "looking4advice" would be signing any contracts that would mean he'd be working for free but also contractually obliged to work therefore unavailable for paid employment.
