Ive just started to download killzone2 there at about six o clock. Its still only at 63% downloaded. I know it is a large file size and all that but other people who started to download it the exact same time as me have it downloaded already. I was at 10% at one stage and they were at 57% downloaded even though they started it the same time. Why is this??? We both have the same "Keep it Carlow" Nat1 connection. Is there even a problem?? If there is is it my internet or my actual PS3? Please, any help is appreciated. Its very annoying. I havent downloaded anything in a while, but I always remember other games downloading very slow aswell. This thing is gonna take over 5 hours to download!! Surely thats not right??!!!!
    Cheers

Mine is currently sitting at 45% and I started it at around 17:30... All my PS3 downloads are donkey slow and I'm on a UPC 20Mb connection... I started downloading the Halo Wars demo on the Xbox 360 around the same time and that was done in just over an hour. Speeds on the PC are fine too and I don't have any idea why the hell PS3 downloads are so slow, but you're not the only one...

Suppose it could depend on what broadband speed you both have and what the line contention is like.

If your on a 1mb line and they're on 3mb or higher I'm sure that would make a difference...

    Just my 0.2c

Well it could be right , it depends on your internet connection speed. Chances are the other person has a faster connection. The demo is around 1.2 gigabytes which is a fairly big file .
Do you know what speed your connection is or is supposed to be?

My connection is a 20Mb, which maxes out at 2.2 - 2.3MB down, which I achieve no problem using my Mac - and the downloads on the Xbox are fine too. Only the PS3 downloads are extremely slow and I suspect the OP has a similar problem, not a slow connection...

The issue is most likely at the server side - I'd imagine the load is quite high on the day of release of such a high-profile demo.....

For Killzone specifically, yes I imagine the server load could be very high, causing problems. However, every demo I download is this slow - a few weeks ago I was downloading the Heavenly Sword demo, which is an ancient game at this stage and it still took over six hours to download!

Remember that Americans are hammering the EU servers with fake EU accounts too. And the more that find out how to do it the slower your d/ls will be.

Havent a clue what my internet speed is or anything like that but seems like some people have it as slow or slower, so its not a big deal.
    Thanks lads.

I have the exact same UPC connection as you J-blk and the KIllzone demo downloaded for me in about half an hour. I'm also on wireless which most people usually say is slower than a wired connection. Is your PS3 hooked up wirelessly or wired Jackeenboy? If you go to www.speedtest.net you can find out what your speed is.

I don't know what the bloody problem is... downloading Lumines Supernova now - 2 hours later and it is at 26% FFS . Nothing else on my network is so slow, not my Macs, not my Xbox, just the PS3...

What NAT type have you got? It might help to reserve an IP for the PS3 on your router. You might also need to open some ports on your router also.

Wireless only effects the ping slightly ,it won't do anything noticable to bandwith.
Do a speedcheck on the ps3 wireless and you'll see for yourself.

NAT 2. As for the IP address, not going to change the router settings TBH for the PS3 to be happy, it gets a valid IP over DHCP and that shouldn't be a problem.

Is there a list of ports that need to be open? My router is UPnP compliant and I thought the PS3 (like the Xbox does) would be able to auto-configure any ports required...

Well yeah, but wireless signals are more complicated than that. There could be interference or an obstruction/distance issue.

Sounds like all your settings are fine, so can I ask how afar away your PS3 is from your router? Have you been able to test the connection speed on the PS3 using a wired connection?

As I mentioned, we both have the same UPC broadband package. I'm also NAT2 and I haven't reserved an IP for the PS3. Although my PS3 is upstairs and my router is downstairs, my PS3 is directly above the router so there's no great distance there or anything to interfere with the signal. Could it be that you're getting interference or something?

I doubt that - my router is less than 5m away and only one wall in between - my Mac and Xbox are in exactly the same spot and work fine, I even see my full 2.3MB download speed on the Mac quite often so I'm pretty sure there's no problems with the network itself/interference.

I've never tried the wired option but I think I'll have to. My Xbox is connected with a wire to an Apple AirPort Express, which is used as a wireless bridge to my router - I could try wiring the PS3 to that temporarily and see if there's any difference.

Is your connection 3 MegaBytes per second or 3 Megabits per second? Have you tried running www.speedtest.net to see what kind of connection speeds your actually getting?

MTV Multiplayer recently did an experiment to see which console had the fastest download speeds and the PS3 did very well, so I'm not really sure what's causing everyones downloads speeds to be so sh!tty. Otherwise it'd be easy to just blame the PS3 or the PSN.

the fact that 90% of psn users were hammering the server to download the killzone 2 demo might possibly be the reason

My xbox and ps3 are in the same spot, both using wireless. Downloaded halo wars and kz2 demos, Kz2 finishes in little over an hour, while halo wars had to be left on over night, weird.

I actually thought over a gigin under an hour was good?

Anyway did the test for the hell of it, 0.32 megabytes and 2.58 megabits.

So my BT connection must be A 3 megabit connection

My issue is not only with Killzone, everything I try to download off the PSN is unbelievably slow - even ancient demos like Heavenly Sword. So I'm sure it's not issues on the server end, but something with the PS3's configuration instead.

I got the exact opposite: Halo Wars was done in under an hour, Killzone took close to 8 hours ... But as I've mentioned, my issues are encountered with all PSN downloads, not just Killzone...

Depends entirely on your connection speed - on a 20Mb UPC connection, you can get a gig down in about 7 minutes or so, if grabbing it at the full 2.2 - 2.3MB speed...
