Should we worry about the weather?

Daughter's school closed tomorrow because of "adverse weather conditions"

Dublin airport closed until this evening.

Is it certain that the game is going ahead?

And whatever about the international at Croker, what about the Big Match? Luxembourg's Golden Oldies v St Mary's veterans at Templeville Road tomorrow night?

Wouldn't want to miss that blubber fest. ;)

The pitch itself is fine since its under heated and been coated to prevent the snow building up i remember reading that the groundskeepers said it would take a couple of meters of snow to make it unplayable. The real worry though i think are the stands and the safety of them, they'll be gritted constantly between now and Saturday and should hopefully make it through.

People seem to forget Scotland vs New Zealand in Lake Eden now thats bad conditions :pac:

City centre from what I heard wasn't too badly affected - just very slushy. Even tonight on the roads didn't seem anywhere near as bad as the past couple (though I did go for a walk and had to push two stuck cars off the road :P)

Quick question, is it just my imagination or does Croker have some under pitch heating or something, to stop it from freezing? Or did I dream this.

    Someone above said it did.

Would be extraordinarily rare for a top quality stadium not to have undersoil heating these days. Huge ructions in England because one of hte teams in London (Fulham?) doesn't have it, and were going to be fined significant amounts as a result.

Actually, I think the massive problem was that they did have it, but didn't turn it on cause they wanted the match postponed, possibly to get players back!! :D

I was thinking the same thing about the pitch in Donnybrook for the game tomorrow. Wouldn't think there'd be any problems with Croker.

I wouldnt be surprised if the A Game was called off or moved but for the love of god why is it being played in Donnybrook in the first place? Surely having it in the RDS makes much more sense.

The RDS costs money and Donnybrook needs to be justified. Plus how big is the crowd going to be? Better to have a full donnybrook than a half full RDS.

The pitch in Donnybrook is in a fairly bad state at the moment, even without the snow and ice.

I think the game in Croker should be fine.

But the A game tomorrow night could be a big concern. I'll see how things go, since I'm supposed to be covering it.

I'd also say that the ladies international might be cancelled too (St. Mary's College RFC, Templeogue).

20s game in athlone?I don't think athlone was hit badly but wouldn't want to make trip for it to be cancelled.

Supposed to be bright and sunny tomorrow up the east coast (still cold though). The snow will be gone by tomorrow evening.

    Aww crap!!!

Just heard that the big match has been cancelled due to unplayable pitch.

The one at Templeville Rd, that is. The minor affair at Croke Park is still good to go.

Well Donnybrook was pretty much covered in snow today so perhaps the A match could well be in doubt.

I'd imagine Croker should be fine though.

Hmm looking more and more likely that i'll be going to this, seeing as i'm pretty sure my brothers flight from London is cancelled, and his tickets are sitting on the kitchen counter :pac:

The pitch surface in Croker always seems to be immaculate. I was there when the rain flooded the surroundings of the ground, and the pitch didn't muddy up even slightly. Twas GAA mind.

Terrible in London and most of southern England today.

    From the IRFU website

The venues for both the Ireland 'A' v England Saxons game (Donnybrook) and the Ireland Under-20 v France Under-20 tie (Dubarry Park, Athlone) will both undergo pitch inspections on Friday morning at 10.00am to confirm their availability.

However, the IRFU are confident that they will both remain open.

The RBS Women's 6 Nations Championship encounter between Ireland and France, scheduled for Friday evening (kick-off 7.30pm) at St. Mary's College RFC grounds at Templeville Road, has been moved to another venue due to an unplayable pitch.

The game between the Irish and French Women's sides will now take place on Friday at Ashbourne RFC with the same kick-off time (7.30pm).

I had forgotten about that. I was at the game as well, horrible conditions. It took me four hours to get to the airport, wading part of the way through waste high water. When I got there most of the flights were cancelled. On the day Croke Park was immaculate. Snow will be slightly different though I guess.

Well on my way into UCD yesterday I saw a group of ugly hairy chaps warming up to start training in the snow (the weather was crap, believe it or not, so I didn't stop).

Im not sure where theyve been training but it could have been them. I mean, they were REALLY hairy and REALLY ugly. And i know for a fact it wasn't Munster.

Not all that silly after all.........check out this link. The French team were stuck on the plane for two hours before they could disembark.

Ah well, if they'd flown Ryanair they'd still be waiting for all their equipment personal belonging's and scrum halves to come through baggage reclaim.

Thats why they only have one flyhalf btw, new travel allowances, only one per team when you fly air france.

I think its due to the strikes.
