No reduction in train services

Today I received a letter from the chairperson of CIE regarding the train service from Port.

He confirms that Iranrod Eirean have no current plans to reduce the train service frequency from Portarlington or Portlaoise. Indeed just prior to Christmas Iarnrod EIreann improved the service by adding the new late evening train from Heuston.

For those of you that commute by train to Dublin Irish Rail have started work on extended the car park which should take approx six months. When completed the car park will have trebled in size.

The Portarlington Railway Action Group has been working hard over the last two years to improve the service and for the car park to be extended to name just a few.

Unlike their sister companies I.E. have no plans to reduce Intercity service levels. Instead additional services planned will be deferred for the time being.

That new late evening service, 2215 Heuston - Portlaoise was introduced from 3rd November 2008.

It's still a **** service. Try and commute on the train from Portarlington to Park West. They don't even try to coordinate the intercity timetable with the commuter timetable (Newbridge <-> Heuston).
