Bus in Five lamps, Dublin

In case anyone here hasn't seen it yet, a bus apparently hit a tree in the North Strand area of Dublin this morning. I put up a few pics of it here and here in a thread in the photography forum.

I'm posting here because it seems like the entire roof came off in one piece, almost as if by design. The windows on the left hand side (the side that the tree is on) don't even look like they've bee smashed/broken. Just wondering if anyone here knows what the story is in relation to this. Is it a safety feature to stop passengers being caught up in the snarled metal if the bus hits a bridge or something?

I was just wondering cause it seems to have happened all to easily. Thought somebody here might know and didn't want to start a discussion on it in the Photo. forum.
