    well guys,

Got my 1st fox with the new rifle the other night. I got the rifle before christmas but havnt had a chance to get out much at all. I took it out when i got it and broke the barrel in slowly over a couple of days, shot here and there and targets, nothing too accurate, just put cheap rounds and cleaned and so on.

Anyway, i took last friday evening off after going into local gunshop and getting a range of ammo to try.

The Rifle is a tikka t3 lite in 223 with a 1 in 8" twist fitted with a wildcat mod and burris fullfield II 3.5-10 x 50

    The bullets were

    1. Remington 55g umc. FMJ
    2. remington 50g umc HP
    3. Hornady 55g V-max

Thanks to Clivej for the Targets!

Now the top left is the first grouping, the 2 shots left are just after cleanin the barrel, the 2 in the bull are next 2 and the one in the 1" high spot the third was after adjusting to hit 1" high at 100yrd
    These grouped very well.

The top Right was with the the 50g HP.
as you can see a bit scattered but still fine for the fox.

The third was the hornady vmax, thats 3 shots in those 2 holes. I adjusted the scope 2 clicks to the left and 2 clicks up and hoped i was set for the 1st night out.

So i finally got out on monday night and covered some of my own land first and straight away i spotted a pair of eyes in the middle of the field. i switched off the lamp and got ready for the shot. switched back on and they were gone, scanned the field and seen another pair at bottom of field,in bushes against a nice ditch, squeezed and result. first fox. stepped it down field, a nice 162 steps.

a nice size vixen.pic taken with phone so no the best.

tried another field that a local farmer has spotted a few, which is also beside a chicken farm, 3 pairs of eyes.all out off range, tried calling no luck.ill leave them for another night.

again thaks to clivej for the targets, recession and all that!!

Are those remington 55 grains cheap, looks like they're fine and accurate through the rifle.

    The Hornady group is sweet

    Great post

The remingtons (55g FMJ) were 21 a box in my local shop,
ill be shopping around tho next time.

you can get them in galway for 12 or 13 i think, (cant get it here in work to check!) excellant for practice tho and shoot near same poi as hornady.

the hornady are 31 a box, but great stoping power and accuracy.worth the extra but wouldnt wanna be waisting them.

Bugger didn't cop it from the first post that they were FMJ, still as you say if you source them for a better price they'll be cheap for target practice

And yeah Duffy's are advertising them for 12.95 for a box of 20.

    Good shoting K_D.
Nice to see someone making better use of my targets than I was, but got the gouping down good now 20mm @100m.

I have still to get out to hunt a fox yet after getting my CZ 223 Varmint last November. It's taken me that long to sort out the rifle to group under 6" @100m for the first time.
I got new Millett Optilock mounts for the scope and now have the gun shooting in 20mm groups @100m. I also pillar bedded the rear action bolt as I thought that the contact area there was to small, even with the ali bedding block fitted in the kevlar stock as standard.

Ammo used is Federal V-Shok 55gr, Hornaday V-Max 55gr and Sako Gamehead 50 gr all shot well.

o... i was lucky enough, i was hitting an a4 page straight out when i mounted the scope, didnt adjust for the first 20 or so shots as i shot one cleaned over a couple of days, when i went to zero the scope for sure it was only a couple of clicks off centre...guess i was lucky?

where you get the sako ammo? wouldnt mind giving it a go. you can pm me details if you like.

    cheers

Thats some nice shooting K_D lovely grouping with the remmy umc. There is some difference in price of ammo 21 euro for umc and as you can see 13 quid in duffys ouch :eek:.

Im paying 27 for Horandy, 23 sako, 10 for amerian eagle fmj and 13 or 14 for hollow pionts in american eagle in the sunny southeast. I find the sako are not the best to feed in my CZ lux but they do group well. Id say they would be good in your tikka seen as they are basicly all the same company.

Can i ask if you dont mind what you paid for the t3 lite, seen one down my way for a grand. Am thinking about switching to the t3 in either the lite or the varmint I think thae varmints are going for around 1100 euro

Thats some fine grouping clive, how do you find the opticlocks is there much of difference in price compared to the normal millet range. I think i paid 108 euro for a 30mm set last year (normal range)

The new mounts reduced my groups up tight from the set-up I had. Sprotsmatch 11mm-15mm adaptor and Sportsmatch mounts. All for sale now.
€61 from Midway UK but you have to get them sent to someone in the UK and then on to you.
Midway IE will it ever happen? John Greene get a move on it.
