Anything I need to watch out for

Very hard ride, cramped and difficulty selling on (white). If you can live with that it has the usual BMW virtues. For the money I can't help feeling you should be aiming for a 320D.

Too much money really. You could have a 2008 320d from uk for alot less

+1 on the ride being too firm. Fine for continental europe but over here its just tiring and uncomfortable 90% of the time.

The same garage have a 118dSE in havana with the same mileage for €4k less. I'd sooner that one even forgetting about price.

Crazy money, did you see the price they have 520d at. 08 for 42k when you can buy brand new for 36k now inc vat vrt.

Buy yourself a new 116d, they get released next month.

The only thing good about a 1 series is the coupe. I cant stand the hatch/mini tourer, probably because its too much of a womans car.

A lot of money as well. The dealer should be able to give you a lot more off.

Thanks for the advice, thats the 1 series out so. Was looking at the Volvo s40 test drove this one
    http://www.carzone.ie/search/Volvo/S40/1.8-R-De/200906191759627/advert

Not as much fun as my golf to drive but really comfortable car. Asked sales guy about service costs and from what he said the cost is around the same as the Golf.

They seem to drop like a rock value wise and have read the service costs are high.

In my honest opinion that car looks a bit tacky. I don't think the wheels suit it, not very subtle mods imo. For the size engine you are after, and the budget you have i'd say you could get alot nicer.

I like s40's but i really think you'd be better off buying a diesel one, especially when looking at 08 models. The 1.6d is about on a par with the 1.8 on the road but if you can get a 2.0d you get a six speed box and good power

    2 things

1)That a crazy amount of money to be spending on a 1 series (regardless of eco conditions) you could get a lot more BMW (or any other brand) for that money. You should at least go for the 1 series coupe or convertible, they are actually very good looking.

    2) Is it just me or are Bolands about 12 months behind with their pricing structure? The 06 M3 they have at 46K is a CS and they haven't mentioned it once in the ad, they don't seem to realise it them selves. They are dreaming with their prices, a boggo spec 530d is 8K more than the boggo spec 520d of the same year according to their prices.

They're not mods. That is the R-Design package, which I think is quite tasteful. It especially looks fantastic on the V50 in white.

Sales of the S40/V50/C30 increased dramatically after its introduction, quite a big take-up on it.

I wouldn't rule out all 1 series, just that white one!
The right 1 series would attract me a lot more than an S40.

They are mods. They may be from Volvo, but they're still mods. I imagine they would look alot better on, and suit more, a white V50. I think the high spoiler and those wheels (which are common enough) don't make it to be an all round nice looking car.

What do people think is a realistic price for the white one series?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,487 ✭✭✭alexmcred

Ok it's decision time for me they have a blue 06 318d SE 64500Km's and are offering a full maintenance pack for five years.

Am happy enough with the cost to change over am just worried about dropping the 2 years and when I go to trade in five years for the bmw or 4 years for the golf which would be worth more.

Link not working right I'm looking at the 118i m-sport.

buy this, you'll save a fiver...

on a more serious note, the blue 318d looks nice but... would it not be a slight bit under powered... would you give up its reg for a slightly older one in order to get a bigger engine as i would use the 320+ rule...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,487 ✭✭✭alexmcred

Drove it yesterday and felt it certainly could shift. You can feel the weight of the car alright but I was happy with its performance.

Have to say it's the maintenance pack that really has me thinking about this deal.

Here is a cheaper 320d though:

was having a nose about the lot in bolands last night. That 318d is a very tidy looking car indeed. It has a wheel upgrade too although the same size. The 1-series was nice too but one of the alloys had a serious altercation with a kerb at some stage. The 3 series with a five year maintenance pack would be nice. It'd save money in the long term

Car looks well, although in saying that i sold one similar in black over six months ago for less than that. Could be worth a look around at similar cars. 5 year service package would be very handy indeed.
