Might be doing a drive later in the year from Cork- Cornwall(Wales).
It will be to bring gear there so just a few questions. What is the biggest van i can drive on a B cat licence. A few makes and models please. Is there any driving restrictions that would stop me driving in England??? Im not familiar with English driving laws. Thanks

The SWB Ford Transit is definitely under the 3,500KG limit and as far as I am aware the LWB is also just under it.

Other options would be something like the Renault Master, Mercedes Sprinter, Peugeot Boxer etc.

Best thing is to check with the rental company as some variations of the models can go above the limit. As far as I know the Citreon Relay is 4,000kg but again there may be a shorter/smaller/lighter version.

Just one quick clarification in case you are not aware. GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) includes the weight of the van + cargo. So basically you'd be looking at the van maybe weighing 2,500kg and then 1,000kg of cargo (i.e. you cant load it to the brim with bags of Cement just because they fit in :D)

    Ford Transit T350
    Canter 14ft Hire Truck
    **

Note that if you're hiring a van in UK there may be restrictions on age and how long you had licence. Each rental company has a different policy.

As has been said above, it depends on the actual gross weight, not the make/model of van. If you put 2 tonnes of gear into a atandard transit, you'll require a C1.

Generally vans which cannot be driven legally on a category B licence will have the mandatory yellow/green reflective stripes on the sides and orange/red stripes across the rear.

You cannot put 2 ton of goods into a vehicle if the weight of the vehicle plus the weight of the cargo bring it above the Gross Vehicle Weight.
    That would be illegal.:)

I know it's illegal. I was merely pointing out that many people load their van beyond the maker's specification. It's done all the time in the building trade. I know several lads with category B licences who drive drop-side Transits with 2 tonnes of cement on board.
