    Hi
    hope someone here can help.

Right on Monday received a hand written note from social welfare saying there would be a payment for me to collect in my local PO on Tuesday. (That was it two lines).

Duly went to collect it (been waiting for a decision on JSA since beginning of Nov) - I didn't even know you had to hand over card to swipe, very helpful person in PO asked whether I had one etc etc.

Anyway it was for a reasonably large sum, but I dont know whether this sum is correct. Should I receive some kind of notification from Social welfare stating what the rate of payment will be per week / month?

Second question what is the frequency of payment? Is it weekly, fortnightly etc?

Sorry for questions, searched the citizens info and social welfare sites and drawn a blank.

    TIA

    Fran

    Hi Fran,

You should have received a letter from the Social Welfare, confirming your cliam has been sucessful, which Post Office to go to receive payment, what date to collect your first payment and which day to collect it every week after that. Also details of your next signing date. At the Post Office you should have received a receipt.

The reason for the large sum is most likely because they have backdated your payment from the date you applied.

Get in touch with your local Social Welfare office. You will need to know your next sining date. If you don't sign, declaring you are available and looking for work, your payment will be stopped.

    Hi
thanks for the reply. I have been signing regularly already and have a print out of all my signing dates till June (received this in November).

As I said surprised I have not received an official letter. Did get a receipt though. (Which also has my next signing date on it).

Re sum - hubbie was working so I was means tested hence why I think sum is too high. Ironically hubbie has been laid off so he is now awaiting a decision which will have a knock on effect to mine.

Oh well need to pop into town tomorrow so will brave the weather and the queue to ask.

    Fran
