Oh don't look at me like that!

This show is candyfloss viewing and arguably should have ended years ago. Season 6 was pants, while season 7 made almost any fan the show had left hate the series.

So, then season 8 comes along, with a severely slashed budget...

...and it's good. Really good. The old execs are out, and the new ones are in and the show is finally (FINALLY) moving along with...decent story-lines!

Admittedly, I only stayed tuned in cos of my love for DC, but this season is really going all out. The year's big bad is Doomsday, the Justice League are frickin in it, Lana is gone (kinda...) and Chloe is still amazing.

    Anyone else watching it?

Shows I watch/Love (to establish some cred :P): Buffy, Chuck, BSG, Deadwood, Heroes, Firefly, Angel, Alias, Farscape, Carnivale, Dexter and Doctor Who.

I get this every friday along with Supernatural, mainly because I havw watched it from the beginning and it doesn't make sense to have watched it for so long and give up now when it should nearly be at its end. Of course that has been my excuse for watching since probably season 3,because it has been fairly pants since then.

In the newest episode aired in the US
Lana has some suit burned onto her skin that gives her superpowers. Dear God that in itself is making me re-think my reason for continuing to watch.

Shockingly bad, when you watch Superntural right after, it is amazing the difference in quality between the two shows. Supernatural has been brilliant this year.

Hrrm, I tried changing the title so we can chat openly about the US pace of the series. It's not working, tho.

As for Supernatural, I can only watch the show on DVD. I caught the first 2 episodes of season 4, and they were pretty cool (the angel is baddass); it's just a shame they changed Ruby...hotter Ruby from last year rocked so much more.

Damn budget issues! (That's why she was replaced TBH...)

I'm kind of in the same boat as tvnutz when it comes to Smallville... been watching since the beginning and not going to give up on it now.

On the other hand, I agree with you that Season 8 has been a pleasant surprise and has delivered some of the best episodes in years. However, there have been some very dodgy episodes too (like that last one - get rid of Lana already!). Smallville has always had a pretty strong premiere and finale episode, even if everything else is crap in between, but this year was the worst premiere ever, a craptacular episode in itself. And so were the first few S8 episodes but then it got good about 5-6 in...

If they don't get rid of Lana soon though, I see a major nose dive coming...

I'm watching too... Its definitely an improvement on last year, and the good episodes are coming week after week (more or less :p). The new cast additions (Davis and Tess) are pretty good - I didn't like Tess at first, but thats changed now.

Looking forward to seeing what Lex's story is - I'm sure there'll be a flashback episode like Lana's recent one.

I'll rename the thread to allow for a more spoilery discussion.

She became more interesting after they introduced the backstory with Oliver I thought.

Well it's Lana's last episode tonight. I'm not gonna lie, Ive loved what they've done with her (spiffy hair-do and all), but the whole Super-Suit thing was just so shyte.

I just hope that they have a satisfying end to the Clana relationship instead of a video-taped goodbye.

As for Hot Ruby of S3, what is Katie doing now? She was, what, in Taken for 15 minutes?! She was soo goood on Supernatural.

See, I hated the show in season one. It had about one original idea. Then Meg came into it and it was awesome. The show is aimed at women, we all know that. But when they have women equal to the brothers on it, I don't feel so bad about watching ;) Ruby wasn't just better, she could kick both of their asses, so I loved watching :pac:

Also, Allison Mack directed last week's episode. Thought she did a great job, I just wish they'd given her a good (ok, better) episode.

Well it's Lana's last episode tonight.

Woo hoo... I'm looking forward to next week already :D. Nah, the episodes she has been in have not been that terrible as some of the last few years ("witch" Lana - now that sucked...) but I'll be glad to see her go and see Lois return...

Yep, Supernatural didn't have the strongest start - but what's great about it is that each year has been better, season 2 was stronger than season 1, season 3 was very, very good (though unfortunately shorter than normal) and season 4 has been awesome so far. Hopefully the CW won't go bust this year or if it does, Supernatural will find a new home, cause I don't want it to end...

Big landmark episode.... surprised at how you-know-who finally went out at the end. Bit of an anti-climax if you ask me.

After 8 years, we needed a big showdown, and when it came down to it, the most memorable thing about the episode was the nurse (her name is Chiara Zanni... I looked it up!)

    Ah well.

Sure remember the anti-climax that was the final showdown between Lex and Clark in Season 7?

That can't be it right?! I'm assuming YouKnowWho didn't really have YouKnowWhat happen at the end - it's just a smoke screen. Still though, glad to see YouKnowTheOtherOne finally bugger off - their plot line with the ThatStupidThing really bugged me and was more non-sensical than a lot we see on this show.
    More Doomsday now please!

*THIS POST IS A BIG SPOILER*
    .
    .
    .
    .

I'm in the same boat as a number of you - have watched it from the beginning so just watch it purely for the ladies. There have been some mighty cringe-worthy episodes in the last few seasons, but this season was really picking up... until Lana came back. Okay, she's fricken hot, and the new hair is lovely, but I was just about going YAY LOIS AND CLARK! FINALLY!

Like they were building it all season 8, then they dropped Lana back in, Clark gave her a quick shag and then she fecks off. Total let down as he can hardly go crawlin back to Lois now.

Lex isn't dead - he's transferred his conciousness into Oliver. I guarantee that's how low the writers have stooped. Reasons being - they realised they couldn't kill off Clarks arch enemy so easily, and two Oliver just so happened to convienently buy a controlling share of Luthorcorp and the board of directors are all dead.

Really shite writing I must say.

i find it embarrsing to watch, when they try to be sexy etc with lois :/

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

Ye it was pretty shocking.as in shockingly bad that is. Lana still has super powers even though she wont be in it anymore, which is just stupid itself. They get some Lex double and make him sound like Darth Vader because they can't get the actor to come back and then they "kill" Lex and somehow identify his remains.

I expected at the end of the episode to see the real Lex somewhere but they did nothing. Are they actually such bad writers that they will bring him back in some "twist" and expect us to be shocked that he is not actually dead? Of course he is not dead,he is Lex Luthor.

And then quite possibly the worst plotline in the history of the show is that Lana stopped Clark from killing. The guy has always been against killing, would never do it,has ranted on about it in several previous episodes and then just because he gets his bird taken away he decides its ok to go murder Lex and somehow Lana becomes the voice of reason. Clark has no problem giving Oliver loads for wanting to kill Lex (for probably quite valid reasons) but then he nearly kills for the stupidest reason

Thread is spoiler tagged now so no need for all the "YouKnowWho" talk ;).

It was crap though, as I expected - and I really wish they would have killed off Lana once and for all. Instead, what we got was the whole crappy-melodrama "I love you but can't be with you" on par with her video goodbye of last season... It was woefully sh**e.

I don't think they want us to believe Lex is really dead, surely they couldn't think the audience is that stupid?!

Anyway, now that Kristin Kreuk's "guest" stint is up, hopefully Lois will be back ASAP, Clark can stop whining and move closer to becoming Superman and the Doomsday thread starts picking up again... It's not back for a month BTW, next episode is on the 5th of March...

Lana really sucks the life out of the show, doesn't she? She's like poison. The show was chugging along quite well this season, we were finally about to get to Lois and Clark, and then that bitch shows up! Not content then with throwing a massive spanner in the works, we then have to listen to everyone fawn over her and say how amazing she is repeatedly. What's even more disgusting is that the show has re-written her, so that even people a thousand years in the future still fawn over her! Ugh. What's she ever done that's worthy of all this praise?
Then they proceed to give her this "suit" which, somehow, also gives her super speed. Whatever. I'm still not quite clear as to how she got the suit ahead of Lex? Admittedly, Lex never seemed to invest in this notion called "security" but even so...

And Lex himself - the actor substituting for him didn't look enough like Rosenbaum, even covered as he was in pipes and wires. Then to kill him off? Seriously. You're probably right with the whole Queen thing - well if so it'd make a really original idea to have some major character possessed by someone else, not happened yet this year has it Chloe/Brainiac?

It's all a shame because the Doomsday stuff was quite good. The actor playing him was fairly decent too but even Clark's enemies must all be set aside for the Wonder that is Lana Lang. Please may she never ever come back. A pox upon her and all her crappy plotlines.

Lex isn't dead - he's transferred his conciousness into Oliver. I guarantee that's how low the writers have stooped.

If they actually go and do that,I'm done for sure! because that would quite possibly be the worst storyline...ever!

I almost stopped watching when they wiped Chloe's memory of Clark's secret. It was simply like taking 8 years of character development and jsut flushing it down the toilet! Luckily they did a reverse on that, probably because any fans left were probably really p!ssed off! Chloe has consistantly been one fo the best characters on the show along with Lex and Lional, but they are both gone so...

    "Why should I train you?"
"You'll be giving the world the gift of Lana Lang"
    "Oh, okay then".

"Now I love you Lana. I'm going to leave what I'm doing and take up a job just so I can watch over you".

Oh and let's not forget "Lana Lang was born to be a martyr"...

It's like the writers are working off "How to create a 'Mary Sue' in 10 easy steps".

I liked this new Lana *dodges various projectiles*

As for Lana being poison, well, she literally IS poison to Clark now. I just wish the writers came to a natural end with these two, rather than it being a turn of events that forced them apart.

As for the whole Lex/Ollie thing; it did cross my mind, but it's a storyline not even the most open-minded of people could tolerate. There are clues, of course: Ollie owns Luthorcorp now etc., but it would mean the death of Green Arrow. While this whole thing does happen in the comics, it's not until later on. There's also a slant in Justice League Unlimited, where Lex and Flash switch minds.

But it would suck beyond belief. We know DC would never allow the CW to off Lex or Ollie, and we know that Luthor plays a massive role in Clark's adult life as Superman. So he's not dead.

On a side note: did anyone watch JL/JLU? I think it's one of the best written shows out there. Perhaps it's hard to believe, but it certainly rivaled Batman: TAS in terms of character development, arcs and double-meanings. It's also a very, very witty show. Plus, if you are a massive genre fan, it's most likely one of your favourite TV actors stars in it at one point or another.

It seems every season has a "new Lana", each more amazing than the last: "Dead parents" Lana. "Dawson's Creek" Lana. "So amazingly beautiful that she could convert gays" Lana. "Amazing spinkick" Lana. "Broken legs" Lana. "Witch" Lana. "Trophy Wag" Lana. "Crazy stalker" Lana and now Wonder Lana, the most amazing Lana of them all.

And for her next trick, she's becoming roundhouse-kick Chun Li Lana... I'm sure they'll work a crossover with Smallville in somehow...

Been there, done that. Remember back in Season 2 when she took all of three karate lessons, then proceeded in subsequent episodes to dispatch groups of six foot tall two hundred pound males with her amazing spinkicks? I'm just surprised they didn't offer to make her deputy sheriff for a few episodes.

They've a section for Lana Lang of Smallville :)

There was that naked Lana scene in the season 4 premiere...and the Lana in the shower scene :P

Yes, I do remember that, your previous post nicely covered all the Lana-phases (I still think witch Lana wins hands down as the crappiest...) :).

My point wasn't that she'll get into karate though, my point was that she literally will become Chun Li:

The last two episodes were just so bad. Seriously, i just dont understand why they keep bringing Lana back into it? She should have been killed off 2 seasons ago (at the very least). When Lex became Zod, i had desperatly hoped that he would throw her off the stupid roof.

What day and time is Smallville on on RTE?

I was watching it on E4. It started there around the first week in November and showed about 8 episodes up until Christmas. Come January it went back to the start of series 8!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,334 ✭✭✭Poochie05

    It's on RTE2 on Friday night/Sat morning - times vary, usually around 1am - this week it's at 01:55.

Finally, she's gone. Eye candy and all as she was the stories were just terrible when she was involved. Again I'm someone who has watched from the beginning, God did it require patience at times (ok a lot of the time) but there were some good moments.

Lex cannot be in Oliver. That would be absolutely terrible. That would be one possession too far.
There's also a slant in Justice League Unlimited, where Lex and Flash switch minds.

Michael Rosenbaum did Flash's voice so it would be a good swap playing Lex. JL is quite watchable, gives me my DC fix.
