hey all, i really need some help or advice asap regarding a new(ish) car.

Given the current economic climate and the fact that i'm only getting calls from scammers in england there is no point in selling the one i have now, so i've removed my ads, and i'm gonna have to trade in.

    we currently have 05 golf comfortline 1.4 petrol(the missus' car),just over 33000 miles and a 07 passat highline 1.6 petrol about 15000 km(my car),

i'm changing jobs in 2 weeks and will be travelling up and back from dundalk to the curragh everyday, about 80 miiles each way, so i'm gonna have to trade one of the cars in for a good economical diesel.but time isn't on my side as my wife is due a baby in the next few days too!!!!

We've decided to hold on to the passat for my wife and child and i can take the golf to trade for a diesel car.

Trouble is that i don't know where to start? i had the golf for sale for a while at €9950 ono but no joy so i'm gonna have to trade it,

any suggestions for a replacement/alternative car(as i've mentioned, economical and diesel) and a comfortable one at that as i'll be spending at least 4 hours a day in it.
Or any ideas on how much i should be looking for the trade price?? Bearing in mind i don't want to exceed the €12k mark including trade in.

Even a suggestion of a dealer that would accomodate my request?
Or a few tips on how to get a good deal trading my car?

there are that many cars now i feel like banging my head against a wall,i've been trawling through all the websites for ages and the more i look the more confused i'm getting and as i've mentioned the clock is ticking......

    Thanks in advance guys ;)

That is some trek you are taking on, fuel and tolls are going to cost you a fortune alone without taking in to account the depreciation on what you are going to buy.

Essentials for that Journey are going to be:
    Very comfy and supportive seats
    Armrest
    Lumbar Support
    Air Con

I used to do Drogheda to Sandyford everyday, best motor I used for that trip was my Mondeo 115ps Zetec Diesel. Engine can plod along nicely on the motorway, plenty of poke for overtaking and it felt like a nice secure environment.

If possible, look for an Auto. The M50 is getting better every day, but I guess you'll have to deal with the Naas Road as well which can be very stop start - when traffic is bad you'll get a right pain in your left leg from the clutch.

I'd say a fair trade in on the Golf would be around €7,500. You don't want to spend too much money as the vehicle will be worthless fairly soon due to the mileage you are putting on. Get something that is reasonable to service as it will need one roughly every 6 months.

    Recommendations:
    VW Golf 1.9Tdi - Armrest a must
Skoda Octavia 1.9Tdi - If you could get a DSG within budget, that would be perfect, although the seats in standard models aren't too everyones liking
Ford Mondeo - 2.0Tdci 115ps at least, avoid the 90ps model like the plague.

I wouldn't be too fussed on Cruise Control unless you are on the road outside of peak times. I have it on my current car and very rarely use it as traffic is just too heavy to maintain a constant speed.
