So basically I'm doing a Politics/History Joint Honours and will probably end up with a 2.1 in both courses by the end of the my third year. I want to continue in academics, probably in History, and would like to get a better understanding of my options.

So, I'd find it very helpful if people here would share their experiences and advice about what to do after third year. ;) I'm looking towards a Research Masters in History, but haven't really got a strong enough understanding of the options as a whole yet.

    Hey
I did joint honours history and philosophy in UCC and did the MA in International relations afterwards. Should be up your alley as it combines history and politics. I really enjoyed the course, half research half taught when I did it (2006-7) but I believe they changed the sylybus.

I did your degree! Graduated in 2006, god that sounds like ages ago!

I was really torn about what to do my masters in, loved history but didn't know if i was up to going into research yet.

Ended up doing Peace and Development studies in UL. It was a really good course and it was really good to get out of UCC! I love UCC but for a masters it might be a good idea to move colleges and get a totally different style of teaching etc.

I will still probably end up with a PhD in History at some stage in the future but the change of areas really opened up on opinions on the area of history that I love (political history). I am now working and doing alot of geeky reading in my spare time!

Look at all the options out there even outside of Cork!
