New wing mirror for my 320CI - 370 Euro :(

Colour coded backing & mirror didn't need replacing, apparently that would have pushed price up to 500euro

    Surely these prices can't continue?

    What? They were cheaper?

I don't consider 370euro for a piece of plastic cheap.

Well then, not being smart, that's what you get when you buy a "Premium" brand. Premium repair bills.

Edit: LOL!! My bad!! I thought you said wing. Jaysus that sounds dear:o

A new mirror if electric and heated for any car will cost atleast €250-€300, another €100 - €150 to paint and fit wouldn't seem outlandish to me.

Yep - should have checked out 2nd hand parts. Expensive lesson learned.

If it's an E46 drop me a PM and let me know what exactly you need. I bought a 2nd hand pair when I needed to replace one of mine. We may be able to make up a complete mirror to suit you with what we have.

Just re-read your OP. You've already forked out?

I think service & parts costs will go up. The main dealers can't sell enough cars, so they intend to get our money somehow!

I disagree--We`ve dropped all our parts prices and servicing by 10-15% just to get punters in the door and most of the other dealres I dela with are doing similar offers.
Bear in mind though that there are dealers out there adding on 10-15% and then "supposedly" giving discounts to make it look more attractive.Shop around people.

In most main dealers parts and service are keeping the place open as it always is in a recession.
Cars arent selling so people are repairing rather than trading in/purchasing new.

Dont forget that the dealer is pocketing about 25% profit on the parts. That is why they deserve to lose the business.

Some dealers are pocketing 25% upwards on parts.Im running at an average of profit before costs of 18%

Please let's not get into THAT discussion again ...we've been through that only recently.

    On topic:

General expectations are that prices worldwide are coming down for pretty much everything ...I don't see why motor repairs and parts should be an exception to the rule.

I'd second that advice about shopping around and get quotes for big jobs before you leave your car in.

Sounds about right for an electric heated mirror..

Most brands would be up around that price

I work for a major importer of Car & Truck parts. We are trying to get our suppliers to reduce prices. We are also trying to get costs reduced across the board. This so we can reduce our retails and hopefully get more business (and keep our jobs).

With the amount of jobs that are being lost in the industry, you will find that Mechanics out of work will start doing more and more nixers again driving the prices down.

It's hard to tell how the costs of parts and repairs will change. On one hand people will hold onto cars for longer, hence more essential servicing - greater demand could support higher prices. On the other, new car income to dealers has been slashed so they might drop service costs to attract business, rather than rejecting work on old cars as before.

I can also see a lot more people getting a written quote for a service, and then buying the same parts from motor factors and servicing it on their own.

When people realise how easy it is to service a car then more money will be lost by garages.

I truly hope prices for parts come down.
I recently was in Keanes and parted with almost €12 + VAT per spark plug before I knew it!
