Hey guys, just a quick question about eye protection. I have tried so many different types, i have viper goggles(fog alot) paintball mask worth 90 quid (fogges also) and then classic army glasses which also fog. Im just wondering what would you guys reccomend for good eye protection which doesnt fog easaly and can also be worn with a helmet or hat?

Wearing a helemt or hat is going to trap the warm air that releases from your head, and circulate it into your goggles unfortunately.

An old trick i use, for years and works a treat. Before every skirmish, dap a little washing up liquid onto some kitchen towl and give your glasses a clean. Should keep it fog free for your day skirmishing.

If your wearing headwear, make sure there is some sort of ventilation in it, or it can breathe sufficently.

It would be worthwhile investing in a decent set of eyewear, fogging really is a problem of the past, there is enough good stuff out there to eradicate fogging.

Arena flackjacks, ESS goggles, the ones ATS do, theres so much choice you shouldnt be getting fog.

I've worn my flackjacks with helmets, boonies and caps, and i dont suffer from fog.

    I'd advise making sure
    A) your goggles have good ventilation
    B) Before each skirmish you clean your goggles with washing up liquid
    C) make sure your headwear has some ventilation
    d) do not use your fingers to wipe the lens, and do not raise them up onto your hairline..instant receipe for fogging
    E) Carry with you a light piece or paper or rag for in game cleaning.

My Guarder C4's never fog up.
    Cannot fault them.

Just got a pair of the Bitter End stamped steel mesh goggles this morning, guaranteed no fogging. :)

Guarder C4s are pretty good and rarely fog and I've also found the flakjaks to be good too.

I'm with Dr Pepper and KD on that one the only time my guarders have ever fogged is if I has my face in the ground and even then they clear up pretty fast

I've fogged up my C4s more than a few times, thanks to my think simian eyebrows. Still, they unfog very fast too. I actually cut extra airways or expanded the existing ones (no, not structurally unsound) to help, which it does. Then again, I never remove the foam liner, which some people do (they wouldn't fog up without it, but I think that's unsafe).

yeah mesh is obviously an option, thought you were refering to only goggles.

There is some absolutely piss poor Bio bb's floating around though, that will break on impact and fly through mesh, witnessed it last week at the Warehouse.

Also some people have a horrible time handling mesh, they focus on the grill template and cant focus on long range or their iron sights.

    Bout preference really

Chears lads for the replys, think ill go for the Guarder C4's, they seem like a good buy. I dont really want mesh goggles either, i think the mesh would be distracting..... Before i go ahead with the buy any other opionions..

    Chears

try your own goggles, only this time wash them before you go out. a lot of people expect to just take their goggles out of the bag and have them work brilliantly but unfortunately like all things, they'll perform much better if you look after them and never stick your fingers on the lens.,

    Chears

I have Guarder C4, they're good but they fogged up first time I used them. They did clear pretty fast but always fogged up again; Flakjaks are the best goggles I have used but personally I always use mesh.

Just got my bitter ends today; the mesh is heavier than expected and is more obtrusive than previous mesh goggles i've owned. That's probably a good thing from a safety pov.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,414 ✭✭✭kdouglas

Yea, I noticed that too when I first put them on. The mesh is more noticeable, but it just reinforces my faith in them actually stopping a BB hit to be honest.

Sorry for all the q's, but can you get different lenses for them (tinted / yellow / etc.)? Or do they come with them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,171 ✭✭✭G3-Nut

im pretty sure you can get them in yellow/black...but if you havent used tinted goggles before, be aware that once it starts getting a bit darker oyu wont be able to see crap

i think fogging could vary a lot person to person. i just tested out my brand spanking new, direct from arena industries, flakjaks yesterday. they did not fog for the first half of the day, but the second half was fog city. my next plan is to fit a fan into them. got fans and battery compartments in maplin handy enough.

Got a pair of ESS with bitter end lens inside and they are the best I've had. Tried bolle and they fogged up. I wear glasses so needed something that an RX insert can fit into. Got milled out of it with a headshot from 5 feet by some russian in drogheda and took a lot of hits on my goggles and they were spot on. The mesh is not that bad and your eyes adjust really quickly.
