Harlequins stick with the Stoop for the Quarters
    4 February 2009, 11:00 am
    By Jon Salinger
After very careful consideration, Harlequins have decided to play their Heineken Cup quarter final against Leinster on Easter Sunday (12th April, Kick Off 3.30pm) at their home ground, the Twickenham Stoop.
Chief Executive Mark Evans said: “This was a very finely balanced decision. We will be giving up a significant amount of revenue by not transferring the game to the national stadium – a mere 400 yards away. In the current economic climate there was a good deal of pressure to relocate, particularly given the success of the Big Game against Leicester in December, when we attracted over 50,000 people to Twickenham. Even more importantly, we know that many Quins fans will not be able to secure a ticket, given that our allocation of 9,150 is lower than our average attendance.

Nevertheless, we felt that the majority of our core support wanted to remain at our traditional ground. They have been wonderfully loyal in recent years and deserve the chance to host a game of this magnitude. Moreover, this is our first ever home tie in the knockout stages in the Heineken Cup. We wish to progress further and recognise that Leinster are a very experienced side in terms of European competition. Although the playing advantage linked to staying at the Stoop may be relatively small, so is the margin between success and failure at this level. On balance, we thought the arguments in favour of staying put were marginally the stronger; although we recognise there are disadvantages in doing so.”

Full details of ticketing arrangements are below but, in order to reduce the financial shortfall, the stadium prices have been increased and certain seats reclassified. Unfortunately, this is the inevitable consequence of retaining the game at a relatively small stadium. It should be stressed that no Harlequins tickets will go on general sale.

Youch, going to be great fun trying to get tickets for this one. Anyone else originally planning on heading over?

Raises the question as well, would Twickenham have been enough of a difference to sway this game more in Leinsters favour? Or are Quins just throwing away a big payday really?

    Bollocks.

I only have Blues membership, so I'm never gonna get a ticket for this one. Maybe I'll just fly home at Easter instead!

Around 3,000 tickets to seasn ticket holders. 1 per ticket holder/member (e.g. 4 for a family season ticket). It's unlikely, Podge, that the Blues will get a ticket, I'd imagine. Though if you ask a few full season ticket holders they might look out for you.

Twickers would have meant a vast reduction in the Quins 16th man's effect, I think, so it's a good decision from their point of view.

Fair play to Quins thats a rugby decesion as opposed to a financial one. I'm not as confident of an all Irish semi now.

Yeah fair play to them but I'd say a lot of their fans won't be happy that they can't goto the match. As will most Leinster fans. But at the end of the day as long as we win i'm happy even if I can't get a ticket.

    C'MON LEINSTER

Really gay this, as a few of us are/were planning on going to London again to support Leinster.

I think i'm still gonna be heading over that weekend, but it'll mean begging and bartering, and probably max managing to get tickets for myself and the brother, and not for our girlfriends.

We took 8 to the Wasps game, and would need at least 5 tickets. Probably not goign to happen, but worth trying.

Great decision by Quinns, it definitly gives them a big advantage over playing it in Twickers now.

I have already booked and paid for flights, so this is bad news. Going to be very disappointed if I can't get a ticket now.

Bad news for Leinster fans, this is exactly why I held off booking my flights. Gonna try get a ticket now and then sort out flights.

Nope,I have said all along we will beat them and the players form has just cemented this thought.
I really think we need to beat them up a bit in the pack,so we will need CJ and Leo but once they play im not too worried tbh.
On paper leinsters team is far far superior.

Of course injuries could hit and I may change my mind.

Im usually wrong though,so make a note of this thread in case you need to quote me lol

With the form the Leinster players were showing the last time the actually played for Leinster, we haven't got a chance.

They were like that before the 6 nations for Ireland and Leinster and since then they have rediscovered it for Ireland,so I would presume they will carry it through to leinster.
