I have an xbox 360 and im very happy with it but having seen the demos for kill zone 2, im seriously tempted to get a playstation 3

in general, are the graphics / sound etc better on ps3 or x360 ? (i have a HD monitor)

    what another games are recommended?

where in dublin would be recommended for good prices?

which model is recommended ( im aware that theres a 40gb etc)?

is the blue ray player any good and is this format the preferred choice over HD-DVD

apologies for the ignorance of ps3!

    Simple answer: No

Longer Answer: Some games look better on the 360, some look better on the PS3. As most games are multi-platform, the differences are miniscule. Games like Wipeout HD and Killzone 2 do show that the PS3 is capabale of exceedingly good graphics and sound, however, exclusives are few and far between these days.

As you can get most games for the 360 anyway, the only ones I can recommend here are exclusives.

On the PSN, there is Wipeout HD, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and WarHawk.

General games to get would be Uncharted, Valkyria Chronicles, Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, Metal Gear Solid 4 and LittleBigPlanet.

All depends on taste really, there are loads more.

No idea, I live in London. Someone else will know.

There is the 40GB, 80GB and 160GB models. The HDD size is almost irrelevant cos the HDD is so easy and cheap to upgrade, as it uses a standard laptop HDD. I think the 80GB and 160GB versions come with a Dualshock3 controller, not certain if the 40GB does.

Go with whatever has the best bundle tbh.

HD-DVD is now dead. Blu-Ray is the standard for HD discs. The PS3 is the best value Blu-Ray player in my mind as it supports Blu-Ray 2.0 (online features etc.) and also plays a lot of other files off its HDD.

    Hope that helps.

I won't bore you with technical differences between the two because I don't really understand it and unless you're that way inclined it probably means nothing anyway!

I have both consoles and on the two games I have for both (COD4 and BF:Bad Company) the graphics are identical. I've seen indepth comparisons between various games that are on both systems and like I said, unless you're an egghead you're not really going to notice the difference.

The reason for this is that most games are developed on the Xbox and then ported to the PS3. What this means is that developers aren't really using the PS3 to it's full potential because it's apparently difficult to code for.

GET TO THE POINT! I hear you say....

Well here's the point. The PS3 has the potential to have superior graphics etc to the xbox but you won't see this in any multi platform games.

With the arrival of PS3 exclusives like Killzone 2 and to a degree MGS4, the PS3 will eventually start to come into it's own and pull ahead of the XBOX which will peak sooner (some say it already has).

This is all only my opinion of course because I'm not a fanboy and love both consoles, but if I were you I'd buy a PS3. The fact that it's the best Bluray player on the market is reason enough.

    Hope this helps

Thanks guy's for your very informative answers.

Id agree about the xbox360 starting to peak.

KZ-2 looks amazing and is a PS3 game only, im a big driving fan and am v.interested in GT5 ( i remember playing GT on the PS1)

you gave me much to muse over.

im not sure i want to shell out 400 euros for a console.

i might see if i can pick one up cheap.

    once again thanks

I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you pick. I would say look beyond the 360's cheap price tho and look at the extra you MAY have to pay.

However I don't think there has ever been a console generation where so many of the games were available on both platforms.

He already has an xbox, you do have a point though about the extras like wifi adapter, battery chargers, xbox live, expensive hard drive upgrades etc

I think the Xbox is so noisy! The PS3, I've found, is practically whisper quiet.

Solution, install your games. Then they are both near the same noise wise but the 360 is still ever so slightly more so.

Ha, this year's PS3 exclusives : KZ2, White Knight Chronicles, Uncharted 2, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank sequel and more.

Tbh i haven't heard of any decent 360 exclsives this year so far. (If anyone says Halo Wars i'm gonna drop an anvil on you)

Give in to the dark side man and buy a ps3, second hand is best.

ah come on now the 360 sounds like a boeing 747 taking off:D:D:D Try watching a movie or a video on that thing.

Not really anymore, on an ongoing basis. Like it has 'more' overall thanks in most part to its first year when PS3 wasn't released, and thanks to a weaker first year for PS3, but looking at gamerankings now, about the same number of exclusives are released on each. There might have been slightly more on PS3 in 08, in fact.
