Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone could give me a hand with this.

I was given a docket for the social welfare to ask for a maternity/clothing payment before I am admitted to hospital to have my baby, but I don't know where to go and what to do with it. Could anyone help me please:)

I have never heard of it but maybe give them a ring and ask? They should have all that info, they really should have given you a leaflet. I googled it and came up with nothing at all.

Maybe your Community Welfare Officer/PHN might know also?

Hi, you should go to your community welfare officer for this. They will give you a supplementary welfare allowance form to fill out and you also need to bring a letter from your doctor that confirms you are pregnant. I applied when I was about 8 months gone and got a cheque for €200. Congrats on the pregnancy :)

Truthfully I dont know who is exactly it applies to, I was allowed it on the grounds that I was forced to take time out from college for the baby and have to wait 3 months before I can apply for JSA and do not qualify for SP.

I know a 16 year old girl who got this payment when she had her son, I think it is based really on just getting mothers who are in financial difficulty ready for hospital.

Then again I could wrong and all pregnant women maybe totally wrong and all pregnant women may be entitled to it!
