I have a second hand golf mk5 but it will be my first time servicing it. just over 65,000 on the clock. It has a full service history so I'd like to continue this and get it serviced in a vw dealership.

Anyone know what the average price to service is or where is a good place to go. Thinking dublin or carlow region.

Checked sheey motors in carlow website. This will service for 334 including vat.

    reasonable?

The service now warning for my second service just came up on my 05 passat. My first service in May 07 cost €159, although that was because they messed up a wee bit and so knocked €100 of the cost (fair play).

So I called around this morning to find the cost this time. Hopefully these costs are correct and they won't find random things wrong with the car.

    Belgard Tallaght, €450.
    Foster Sandyford, €420.
    MSL Dun Laoghaire, €380.

Ouch. I guess you would expect to pay less for a golf outside Dublin. It looks like auto servicing is definitely counter cyclical.

I might steer clear of MSL on Pottery Rd if I were you.

As a matter of curiosity, how often should you get your car serviced. Some people say once a year. Others say every 10000-12000 miles.

Each car has its own service interval. The majority of VW's are every 30,000kms or two years. Most fords are 20,000kms or one year. BMW's dont have a set interval, instead they use the on board computer to determine if the car needs a service or not.

Depends entirely on the car, details will be in the service book.

Ok, so it looks like msl is out. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055110969

I could write pages on my dealings with Foster so they're out. I called two dealers in the North. One in Newry quoted £205 and the other in Belfast £130 inc vat. I didn't even query the second one to confirm it was long life one, he just said the mileage was low. My eyes were on sticks.

So take your chances in Dublin for €380 or go North for €150. Looks like a weekend break in my future.

I Got my timing belt and servce on my mk 5 tdi golf in newry 2 weeks ago it was £450, it was well worth the trip because i was quoted €800 for timing belt only in dublin. that was with P&R VW in Newry

They are crazy prices, I would be asking for a breakdown of what they will do, remember they are making a profit on parts as well as labour.
