RAISED Percolation Beds

    Hi all
Would be grateful for any info on creating Raised Percolation Beds (as opposed to normal percolation beds)?
Had a read of the EPA doc cited on the forum re single dwellings but it doesn't go into raised beds in any detail.

Is it the same as a normal bed only set in shallow ground and covered with mounds of soil instead of being buried?

Also it sounds like the waste will need to be pumped from the septic tank - is this a costly process?

    Thanks again

This is a site specific question. It is difficult to answer without inspecting the soil on your site.

Planning permission would be require to install a constructed percolation area.

The raised area is made up of good soaking soil, with a certain T-value, specific to your site. It must be positioned on health grounds, so as not to affect neighbours wells etc.

Details are contained in the EPA manual and the old S.R.6:1991 guidelines.
Most Councils now have a "Panel" of Soil Suitability Testers. It would be best to contact one of these individuals, for Professional advice, specific to your site.
