    Hi all,

I just put €20 on us to win the Grandslam.

    I got it at 8/1.

Do ye reckon I've thrown 20 quid away or do we have some chance?

    Not a bad bet tbh.

Will be very difficult, but we do have a solid chance.

It's an outside chance but 8/1 aren't bad odds at all. I think you'll know whether it's a good bet or not after we play France!

Exactly, watch the odds drop considerably if we beat France.
Also if Scotland beat Wales, which I think they have a really decent chance of pulling off.

    Hi Darren,

I was basing it on the fact that Leinster and Munster seem to be on form these days. The French side this weekend doesn't seem that strong (and the fact we're out for revenge in Croker). We should beat Scotland and Italy. We're not going to lose to England in Croker (touch wood). So I reckon Wales is our toughest challenge. This could be our year.

I reckon it could be a very good bet, did myself as well. It's a possible winnings of 170 now, was more yesterday, so odds were slashed slightly.

Didn't take the bet I can't see it but I can see us winning or doing very well.

    Hi Brian,

just because the french sides are playing poor it wont be the same for the national team. france gets to pick the best 15 from all there sides. a munster pack beating other club sides around the park is ok at that level but its a real step up internationally because its the best france will have to offer. even a munster pack dont dominate always at club level.

we have won it only once ever! it is a massive task for us to win 5 straight competitive matches. i dont think in our history we have ever done that either. a championship is more realistic and even more realistic is to finish second on points difference because of our inability to score high points.

i really hope we can do it and think kidney has picked the best we have. a showdown in cardiff would be nice! :D

I put money on betfair for us to win the championship. Was 3.5 to 1 or 4.5 in decimal

I took Ingerland at 9-1 for the slam. Risky I know but my logic at the time was that they weren't as bad as pundits were making out. They actually got a lot of ball against South Africa and have a good set of forwards. Also France are a bit of a mess with Lieveremont in charge, and Wales can't be that good two years in a row.

That was my thinking anyway. Do PaddyPower do refunds ? :(

If the Irish, welsh and french first XVs were to be struck with some sort of plague in the next 24 hours, then it would start to look like a decent bet. If not, then no.

    Going from paddy power's odds...
V England 7.5 (this one worth a punt actually)
    V Ireland 4.33
    V Scotland 3.5
    V Wales 5
    V france 5

On an accumulator (which the grand slam effectively is), that would be 2,840 to 1

Do betting sites let you place accumulators?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,198 ✭✭✭✭Crash

A nice one to cover the likelies would be to put on an england, ireland wales treble and an italy ireland wales treble - worst case scenario of course you lose it all, but england, ireland wales gives you 2.78 to 1, while italy ireland wales gives you 19.43 to 1.

edit: barnesd - yes, to an extent. sometimes paddy power just bitches about certain things.

Yes, but generally only across a single weekend. They won't let you place an accumulator across the whole tournament, because the odds for later matches could change dramatically based on form on the opening weekend.
