I am looking at Ford Focus 1.4 5Dr LX 2002 with 30,000 miles on the clock. Metallic Silver, petrol. No alloys/ sunroof etc.
I checked the mileage on motorcheck.ie and all looks good.(if it can be trusted)
I have heard that if the dash is replaced the mileage goes back to zero.

I can possibly get this for €5,000 with 6 months warranty. I wont pay any more than that.
Is this a good price? All help appreciated.

TBH it seems a little on the steep side but the mileage is low. If its from a dealer (with warranty it prob is) try a much lower offer. They'll be mad to get rid of stock.

I had a 2004 Focus collection 1.4 and while the car is great, the engine is woeful. If you can at all aim for a 1.6. The 1.6 doesn't have to be constantly dogged to get anywhere, and as a result will probably be more economical. There shouldn't be too big a difference on insurance and tax either for a much, much better car.

Also, there is plenty choice out there so you could find a nice decent spec for yourself.

Why would dealer bomb the price on a 02 Focus with tiny mileage ? Be realistic here - this car is prime stock - no dealer in his right mind would sell this cheap. His investment is low - what's 5k going to do for his cash flow (compared with a 20k or 30k car) ? Where could he get another one to replace it for stock ? If I were that dealer this is the one car in the yard that I would not discount aggressively.

Doesn't sound out of the way anyway at 5000 euro.

Not every dealer is so desperate for cash as to give away everything at ridiculous prices !

I had one for four years and they are great. however, the 1.4 is woefully underpowered - which really shows when overtaking. I'd be inclined to agree that the 1.6 is a much more suitable engine on a car that size...

i had a 1.4 focus and as mentioned the engine is poor. since then i got a golf 1.4 and the engine is far better. in other words steer clear ;)

Focus is far far more reliable than the Golf. Petrol Golfs give tons of trouble, much over-rated car. Sold a few petrol Golfs, all gave trouble (lots of things), I avoid them now.

1.6 Focus is nicer car to drive than the 1.4, if the extra insurance and very little more tax is affordable.

I would certainly echo comments of others re power. I have driven both 1.4 and 1.6, big difference. Focus great car though.
