That's different to Ogham's link how exactly?

Oghams link has an affilliate tag which means that someone gets credit/paid for sending you to the site. Like he was getting paid for advertising

Hmm, how do you know that's the case? might be a dumb question but i can't see the difference....:)

And what if he is, as long as we aren't paying more for the BD's, I'm happy to see someone getting some benefit themselves for going to the effort of posting a link.

Well personally, i think it's pretty scummy to add an affiliate link and pretend that you're doing someone a favour but that's neither here nor there.

If you read through the thread you can see that my post explains what was meant by an affiliate link, and the later post describes how to see the difference between that and a clean link. Until this post i didn't give any indication of my opinion on affiliate links.

Do you have a problem with people knowing about this (affiliate links etc.)?

Personally I don't * (I've never posted an affiliate link myself) but I gathered that you did.

    * As long as it isn't costing me anything.

BTW I'm going to be buying a lot of BD from this sale and I'll happily use Ogham's link. No different from the time that the Sky friend €75 deal was going on and I arranged for someone here on boards to get €75 for recommending my sister as a new customer (she then also gained cheaper install).

It is quid pro quo, I really don't see the big deal.

The reason affiliate links arent allowed is because if they were the place would be filled with spam all the time. Anything half decent people will be posting links to, just to try and make some money, and encouraging people to purchase stuff that perhaps isnt as good a deal as they want you to think.

Edit: Even more off topic: I noticed recently that avforums have an auto add affiliate link on their forums. Could be interesting if boards had something like that here to drum up money for the site?

Apologies for going totally off topic tho

    Yes, sorry for going OT.

I think the fairest thing would be very people to post both their affiliate link and a straight link, that way people could decide for themselves if they want to help the person or not.
