I was in a smash up on monday and My little 2000 fiesta is dead.

Im looking for a new car (second hand) and im thinking a fiesta again as i know it can hold its own against 2 cars and a truck hitting it. - i can still see that truck coming for me :eek::eek::eek:

She is a gonner but totally protected me. Views on a fiest steel 2005-2006ish.

If yall think its a good car?, im not finding anything better than €8000 up. Do you think i would find a better deal. I need a car but dont want to be hasty

The mothe had a 03 Fiesta for a year, and it was such a horribly uncomfortable car to be in. So much so she sold it one day short of the year.

I don't know how they improved on in the years comfort wise. Wouldn't be a bad car to buy, get something high spec.

Others to included in your search would be the likes of the Opel Corsa, Vw Polo, Mazda 2/3.

    thanks!
    Will start looking at these.

My fiesta. i didnt like it to look at but i loved the car itself. great run around, nippy.
i found the drivers seat comfortable but the back didnt look to nice. but sure i would never be back there and didnt have many passangersto worry about.

Was looking at a fiat grand punto. I liked it and arranged a test drive for the morning but someone told be to stay away. Buy today, repair tomorrow - tin can

I think the outside of the Steel is nice enough. Inside might be a bit 'plasticy' but no more than my 2000 fiesta

You shouldn't have to travel far to get a decent Fiesta, there's loads of them.

There are a few around alright but not at good prices - that i have found in dublin (maybe 8-9 is good for an 05/06)

Is it not strange that that car linnked has such a small milage? 14K miles on a 2006

Some owners drive farther than others.;)

The later ones are a great car very comfortable to drive with great handling - if you can pick up a diesel better still they're really reliable and economical.
The Corsa is probably the worst made small car I've driven in a while I had the misfortune of being given a 06 rental one while mine was in the garage horrible heap of sh1te.
BTW you can probably pick up a Fusion pretty cheaply - more room in the boot and a better drivers view.

I was wating on a smart answer like that :p

I dont know why but i always consider diesel a company car / van etc. Is it good to pick one up for personal use. Only maybe 15k mile a year

Well the missus has a 1.4 Diesel Fusion she can fill the tank for 30 quid and get nearly 65 mpg - wont win any rallies in it but not everyone wants to drive fast! Also doesn't need as much maintenance and the 1.4 TDCI only needs a timing belt change every 150k
We really felt the difference between that and my petrol car when oil prices were high.

Sold a 06 Fiesta Steel 5dr 45k kms / 28k miles for 7900 two weeks ago with warranty, service etc and took a trade-in. Don't see why you shouldn't be able to get one for less than the 8k budget. Should not have to settle for a 2005 either.

    MY HEAD IS MELTED!!

How do you deal with provate sellers? If somthing was up for €8000 whats the likelyhood they would let it go for €6000

I'd say less of a chance getting that kind of money off a private seller. PLus the fact it's buyer be ware, ie. no warranty. All you can do is chance your luck. Factor in the fact that, like with every private sale, if you drive 100 yards down the road and it breaks down, you've no comeback.

Im getting so many people telling me to stay away from dealers if they are not budging on price (maybe they are seeing a young girl and hoping i love the car and pay? or price i do see they tell me that is the reduced to sell price and they wont go lower )

I have so many saying go with private dealers or even try auctions like merlin

Auctions are grand if you know what your doing. Again, it's the case of buyer beware, you have nothing to come back on.

There are sooooo many Fiesta's in the country, sure if you narrow it don't to your country etc. and just suss out a few prices and ring around and see what you can get them for on a straight deal. Tell them you have money sitting on the table and nothing to do with it, could make the budge a little.

It's not a case of if they will drop their price or not. Decide what's value for a 2005 or 2006. 05 should be less than 7k, 06 less than 8k. Look at a few adverts on Carzone, ring a few dealers that have reasonable prices and ask them for a straight sale price. Even if their prices are keen (they will have a fair idea of what others are charging) they may haggle a bit when you turn up and drive the car and are ready to deal. If a dealer is already the cheapest on Carzone he will have set his price deliberately that way so will know that and not drop a lot more.

I see Donal Murtagh Cars outside Athlone have a 14k miles one for 6500 euro, 2006. There are about 20 others on Carzone under 8k for 2006. Start making calls !!!!

If buying privately or in Merlin, reduce your budget by 500 euro or so - in that way you will have a few quid to service the car when you get it and do any little jobs.

That Donal Murtagh one is gone
