Seems like we're in for a week of snow talk anyway, how about we just start a thread and keep all the snow talk to it?

Eitherways i've a question to ask to resolve an arguement.

Driving in snow, is it high gear low revs, or low gear high revs?

High gear low revs gives better traction. That's the one you want. If you still can't get the car to move, let some air out of your tyres

Another thing - traction control on or off?

Leave a safe distance between you and the guy in front.
Drive in a high gear (1,500RPM. The lower the revs the less likely you are to spin wheels/having the TC kicking in.
Anticipate your stopping distance without brakes/downshifting (come to a natural halt where at all possible.
Light slush is lethal (worse than powder snow imo) so don't get tempted to speed up if the road seems clear.

    Depends, actually :D

On the straight or uphill the highest gear/lowest rev possible is preferable ...down hill is differnt though as the car would run away from you in a high gear and then you'd need to use the brakes which is iffy.

So going downhill the secret is to slow down beforehand and then use a low gear and engine braking to crawl down and stay off the brakes as much as possible.

:pSound lads, sister insisted it was low gear high revs... I tried to explain, f3cking wimmin:rolleyes:

What about us automatic drivers? Is it ''L'' or ''2''?

Remember, though, that at least with the brakes you have ABS. Barring clever ESP, a front-wheel skid due to engine braking will leave you unable to steer.

In case of emergency, there is always the clutch :D

But yes, you're right ...one has to judge it properly and be at the right speed and in the appropriate gear not to overdo it with the engine braking ... gently does it, as with everything in this weather.

Hope everyone got home safe tonight.

I had the honour of spending 1hr 25mins getting from central park up to the M50 this evening.

Did anyone else try to go down the hill to the M50 Sandyford roundabout.
I've never driven with such caution.

The road uphill was blocked because cars couldnt get up it.
I gingerly passed 2 BMW's, a Merc & a Lexus in sequence going up and I think they were about to give up.

I Agree with the prev poster. low gear for going downhill for sure.

Actually, just to annoy those who got covered in snow, this is the limit to what we got down this side.
