What do you do with your old bike bits?

    Just wondering what do people do with their old bike components when they change them e.g. chains, cassettes etc. Are any of them recyclable or do you just dump them in the bin.

    I observe the oxidative effects of Irish weather on old bikes!

    They seem to take up space on my floor. It's handy to have spares, but certain parts I think you are better off passing on/selling to someone else. I had a spare set of caliper brakes, offloaded them here to someguy whose name I can't remember. Things like lighting mounts I seem to have an endless supply of however.

    Ninja weapons.

    Chains = nunchucks
    Cassettes and chain rings = ninja throwing stars

    If you are changing it because it's worn (chains, cassettes, cables, etc.) then I would chuck it out. The rest all gets kept, because you never know :D

    Although you could try this

    I always keep everything. Especially nuts, bolts, washers, etc. Learnt that early on when making bikes - several times I'd be thinking to myself "Crap, I really need that one particular type of bolt now, but I threw it out when I stripped that other bike". Everything gets put in a box nowadays.
