    Folks,

At christmas i got sucked in to the Sky HD hype and i upgraded to the HD box.

Now with the recession and pay cuts i wish i had the option to cut all bills that i can like Sky and Setanta. I believe as i upgraded in November to Sky HD that they have me tide into a contract for 12months.

I thought i read on a forum before where you can pay Sky the money for the subsidised box to get out of the contract and quit?

It may be possible, though I'm unsure.

No harm in calling Sky about this and see what they say.

Can you reduce your package to the lowest level without breaking your contract?

Typically for a new contract you can't downgrade for a few months.

Ring them and explain the situation. They are flexible if you arn't rude. But realistically you have committed to a subscription for a minimum period of months.

You're tied into your 12 month HD subscription if you got a new cheap (i.e. subsidised) HD box off them, probably not worth your while buying your way out of the contract especially if you got a box for 49 Euro, your best bet is to downgrade your other channels to as basic as you can, you'll still retain the HD channels (or more correctly the HD versions of the channels you subscribe to).

Remember, even if your have a 12 month contract and want to get out at the end of the 12 months, make sure you ring up and cancel at the end of month 11, all subscription changes require 30 days notice.

Still, worth a phone call to see if they'll do something for you (unlikely though), keep us posted...
